This winery was built by the owner himself, who painstakingly put it together with his own hands. Its two-foot thick walls with elegant floral paintings make the place a delight in itself. The wines add to the pleasure. The luscious grapes are a treat to view, especially during harvest, when they bounce tantalizingly in carts hurtling off to the winepress. Rolling picnic grounds can be used for a lazy lunch, with the accompaniment of oddly-named reds, such as Nuns Canyon Syrah, or familiar whites, such as the Chardonnay. Stop at the wine shop that does brisk business, despite the slightly pricey labels. A 10% discount is available on the purchase of 12 bottles or more. Note: Groups of more than 8 persons must call for an appointment.

If you've always wanted to try your hand at wine-making, offer to help at the F. Teldeschi Winery. They might just take you up on it. Be prepared for grubby, purple-stained fingers and squishy shoes though, for it isn't as easy as they make it look. The owners have an innovative way to ensure that their precious crop isn't ravaged by deer and turkeys: they grow Palomino and French Colombard grapes, which distract them from the real McCoy. The tasting house is welcoming and friendly, for the owner and winemaker often chat with patrons, advising, cracking jokes and sharing experiences, as the drinks, some as old as 90 years warm the heart.

A limited collection of wines are found here, and for good reason. Owners Fred and Ginger take great pains to clear land, plant the groves, prune and harvest grapes. And that's only just the beginning of the procedure. An arduous blending procedure, which includes filtering and storing, results in streams of the glittering, delicious fluid, with rich textures. The bottles too, are designed to attract, with their smart colors and classy labels. The specialty of the place is the divine dessert wine - Moscato Del Millenio. This little winery may not be easy to find, but it's worth the search. The vineyards are extensive and fruitful, and the view from the grounds adds to the experience. Viognier, syrah, cinsaut, merlot, carignane, grenache, grenache blanc and counoise grapes are all ripened to perfection before being crushed to form fine wine at Frick. Traditional methods are employed here, including the arduous task of punching the cap by hand during fermentation. No wonder the wines are delicious! The Sonoma Brut, aged in the winery's caves has a texture that's best described as classic. More tantalizing are the reds, which imbibe tropical fruit fragrances and flavors as they are fermented. There is good news for the parents; they offer a discounted rate for children. And as for all you romantics, cruises happen only on the nights of the full-moon. So head on there for some real Shakespearean-type romance. The Renaissance is back in vogue.

Hop on this train and experience a first-class meal and fine wines as you tour Wine County. The train offers a champagne brunch, casual lunches and fancy dinners. It is ideal for romantic dinners, executive parties and tourist excursions. The train's decor is elegant, though daytime travels are casual. Take in the sights both outdoor and indoor: mahogany, brass and etched glass in the restored 1917 Pullman Dining Car. At the McKinstry Street Station starting point, you will find a handful of charming little shops that specialize in wine (of course), gourmet foods and gifts.

A picnic ground and trailhead at the base of the hill lead to steep trails up to the boulder-strewn valley rim. Hikers and horse riders are greeted with pretty views of the valley and a respite from the wine-soaked tourist crush of the valley floor. Some moderate degree of cardiovascular fitness is advisable before setting off.
