Ideal Family Meal |
6476, Washington Street Napa Valley, CA 94599 United States +1 707 944 2487 http://www.adhocrestaurant.com/ |
At the sleek-looking Ad Hoc, chef Thomas Keller takes the average American meal and turns it up a notch. Although the decor may be sparse, with plain white walls and chrome tables, the food is anything but. For starters, ease into the Haricots Verts and Garden Fig Salad, and then move your way up to the Bacalao & Chick Pea Soup. Finish off the night with a heavenly Chocolate Bread Pudding topped with whipped caramel cream. Though pricey, the meals leave you wishing you could eat Keller-style every day. 4110 Howard Lane At Highway 29 Napa Valley, CA 94558 United States +1 707 224 3300 http://www.bistrodongiovanni.com pasta@bistrodongiovanni.com |
This relaxed, cozy eatery is popular with local vintners, a great recommendation for excellent food. No wonder, as its owners are Giovanni and Donna Scala who also own Scala's Bistro in San Francisco. The wood and tile dining area, adorned with lots of fresh flowers and pottery, features a huge fireplace and glassed-in kitchen. Outside, a sprawling patio overlooks adjacent vineyards. The traditional Italian cuisine is impeccably prepared. Recommended dishes include the Trenne Pasta with Lamb, Artichokes, Olives, Roasted Tomatoes and Ricotta Salata. The wine list features local and Italian vintages and the service is first-rate. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Rustic charm |
1250 Lincoln Ave Napa Valley, CA 94515 United States +1 707 942 4101 http://www.napabeer.com info@calistogainn.com |
In an area best known for highbrow tastes and attitudes, this gem offers a welcomed touch of rustic reality. Located inside the Calistoga Inn, this restaurant and brewery is a clandestine retreat from the heavy flow of tourists in Napa. Its patio overlooks the banks of the Napa River and during the warm months, the kitchen staff can be seen cooking outdoors over wood-fired grills. The menu harvests a wide range of global influences, including Spanish, Mexican and Jamaican. Starter plates are diverse and perfect for sharing. The Country Paella - saffron rice with imported chorizo, chicken, shellfish and vegetables - stands out in a menu of meats, fishes and pastas. An adjacent brewery serves award-winning micro-brews. Visit on the weekend for live acoustic music in its pub. Review © 2007, Wcities |

San Francisco locals are ignoring the city's best restaurants to flock to this countryside jewel, considered to be one of the best establishments in America. According to reports, reservations should be made at least two months in advance. The exquisite American-French food defies description or convention. Appetizers include Poached Moulard Duck, Foie Gras au Torchon with Port-braised Mission Fig, and Adriatic Fig Salad. Entrees include Sirloin of Fallow Venison wrapped in Applewood and Smoked Bacon with sweet carrot puree. The French Laundry's extraordinary food is exceeded only by its excellent service. Patrons are always impressed by the breath and depth of knowledge of Master Sommelier Paul Roberts, whose recommendations are as tasteful as they are informative. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fish in the Middle of Wine Country |
641 Main Street Napa Valley, CA 94574 United States +1 707 963 0700 http://www.gofishrestaurant.net/ info@gofishrestaurant.net |
The brainchild of Cindy Pawlcyn, Go Fish is an elegant restaurant dedicated to seafood. The decor is a breezy and crisp. White is the central color with accents of blue, reminiscent of being out at sea. Tables are plush booths, unless you're at the sushi bar. The sushi bar is large and pristine, a world away from the dining room. Service at the sushi bar is attentive and personalized. Only the freshest fish are handled and served - all with immaculate precision. The menu is large offering traditional surf & turf and fish & chips. The real treats occur in dishes that fuse Californian and Pacific Rim flavors, like in the Chili Lime Gulf Prawns served with egg noodles and a red-curry coconut broth. Whether its lunch or dinner, Go Fish is refreshing. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Are you in the mood for romance? Business? Or just plain old bored? Head on to Napa River Inn. With a spectacular view, rooms to die for and a Spa that has been voted 'Best Of' by the Napa valley citizens, you cannot go wrong here. This place offers you restaurants, a jazz club, chocolate shop and many outdoor dining areas. The décor is a comfortable blend of modern with historic, but the most alluring things about this place would be its proximity to about 10 tasting rooms, all located in downtown Napa. Try the different rooms, especially the Capt. Hatt Suite, or the Embarcadero Deluxe room. Even their standard rooms are exclusive. Just head on there. This place is almost paradise on earth. Hop on this train and experience a first-class meal and fine wines as you tour Wine County. The train offers a champagne brunch, casual lunches and fancy dinners. It is ideal for romantic dinners, executive parties and tourist excursions. The train's decor is elegant, though daytime travels are casual. Take in the sights both outdoor and indoor: mahogany, brass and etched glass in the restored 1917 Pullman Dining Car. At the McKinstry Street Station starting point, you will find a handful of charming little shops that specialize in wine (of course), gourmet foods and gifts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Napa Valley Innovation |

At Pilar, located in downtown Napa, innovation is the name of the game. The lunch menu, while paying homage to home cookin' with items as simple as a ham 'n' cheese sandwich, also features inventions as exotic as crab tostadas and lamb lasagna. At dinner, meals are a bit less linguistically whimsical, but no less elegant. Venison flank steak, pan-fried sand dabs and day boat scallops are just a few of the choice offerings you might find on a visit to this culinary mecca. Dessert brings a whole selection of favorites, once again perked up with helpings of fresh fruit and other bits of goodness. Don't forget the expertly assembled beer and wine lists. Also, Pilar offers cooking class for a $35 fee. Visit their website for details. Review © 2007, Wcities |
