At the sleek-looking Ad Hoc, chef Thomas Keller takes the average American meal and turns it up a notch. Although the decor may be sparse, with plain white walls and chrome tables, the food is anything but. For starters, ease into the Haricots Verts and Garden Fig Salad, and then move your way up to the Bacalao & Chick Pea Soup. Finish off the night with a heavenly Chocolate Bread Pudding topped with whipped caramel cream. Though pricey, the meals leave you wishing you could eat Keller-style every day.

White is the central color with accents of blue, reminiscent of being out at sea. Tables are plush booths, unless you're at the sushi bar. The sushi bar is large and pristine, a world away from the dining room. Service at the sushi bar is attentive and personalized. Only the freshest fish are handled and served - all with immaculate precision. The menu is large offering traditional surf & turf and fish & chips. The real treats occur in dishes that fuse Californian and Pacific Rim flavors, like in the Chili Lime Gulf Prawns served with egg noodles and a red-curry coconut broth. Whether its lunch or dinner, Go Fish is refreshing.

It is ideal for romantic dinners, executive parties and tourist excursions. The train's decor is elegant, though daytime travels are casual. Take in the sights both outdoor and indoor: mahogany, brass and etched glass in the restored 1917 Pullman Dining Car. At the McKinstry Street Station starting point, you will find a handful of charming little shops that specialize in wine (of course), gourmet foods and gifts.
