This small winery (annual production 2,700 cases) produces Red Meritage, a proprietary blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes. With a Wine Advocate rating of 95+ and accolades calling it a profound wine, a stop here may be worth your while. The 170 acres of the estate vineyards have three separate viticultural areas. The Oakville vineyard in the valley floor is certified organic and grows mostly Merlot grapes. The Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder vineyards, located at altitudes of more than 1,000 feet, are primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used in producing wines for sister labels Lakoya and Atalon.

Far Niente

Fine Wine
1350 Acacia Drive
Napa Valley, CA 94562
United States
+1 707 944 2861
http://farniente.com
info@farniente.com
Far Niente functioned as a gravity flow winery till the onset of prohibition. It was in disuse for 60 years and opened again in 1979. Far Niente believes in quality and therefore produce one Chardonnay and one Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest quality, luxury and elegance. If the wine does not meet expectations, then it does not make the final blend. Both the wines are premium wines and much sought after by the connoisseurs of California and beyond. Visitors are welcome and guided tours are offered several times during the day. You would need to call ahead if you want to go on a tour of their tri-level winery, the storage caves and the carriage house which has a large collection of classic and vintage automobiles.

This is NOT the Mondavi Winery, rather it is what used to be the Vichon Winery, acquired in 1985 by the Mondavi family and Associates. The new name was bestowed upon the winery in 1997 to reflect its production focus: all Italian varietals like sangiovese, nebbiolo, moscato bianco and barbera. The winery has a spectacular panoramic view of the Napa Valley. The grounds are nicely landscaped and tables can be reserved for $25 (includes a bottle of wine) at the popular picnic area. An on-site Italian marketplace is a fun place to browse for gifts. Tasting free.
