This relaxed, cozy eatery is popular with local vintners, a great recommendation for excellent food. No wonder, as its owners are Giovanni and Donna Scala who also own Scala's Bistro in San Francisco. The wood and tile dining area, adorned with lots of fresh flowers and pottery, features a huge fireplace and glassed-in kitchen. Outside, a sprawling patio overlooks adjacent vineyards. The traditional Italian cuisine is impeccably prepared. Recommended dishes include the Trenne Pasta with Lamb, Artichokes, Olives, Roasted Tomatoes and Ricotta Salata. Spectacular French bistro |
6510 Washington Street Napa Valley, CA 94599 United States +1 707 944 0103 http://www.bistrojeanty.com philippe@bistrojeanty.com |
The neighborhood French bistro has won numerous awards - it was named top ten of the Bay Area by Gourmet Magazine and best 20 of San Francisco by Zagat Survey. Locals flock here nightly, while tourists are abundant during the weekends. The decor is rustic, taken right out of the French countryside. The service is attentive and knowledgeable. The menu pays homage French home-style cooking. The Coq au Vin is a knockout. The chicken and the mushrooms are engrossed with the rich flavor of the red wine reduction sauce. The dish is presented in a pristine white serving bowl, a beautiful contrast to the vibrant burgundy color of the dish. No trip to Bisto Jeanty is complete without the Citron Givre, lemon sorbet. This desert showcases the chef's personality and commitment to refined homey foods. The lemon sorbet is served in a hollowed lemon, presumably the same lemon used to make the sorbet. The lemon is plated whole, reconstructed on the plate. The presentation is whimsical and the sorbet is a perfect balance of sweet and tart. Throw in a world-class wine selection and you have completed a wonderful dinner by a renowned chef from the Champagne region of France. In 2007, the inaugural year of the Michelin Guide San Francisco, Bay Area & Wine Country, Bistro Jeanty was awarded a Michelin Star. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In an area best known for highbrow tastes and attitudes, this gem offers a welcomed touch of rustic reality. Located inside the Calistoga Inn, this restaurant and brewery is a clandestine retreat from the heavy flow of tourists in Napa. Its patio overlooks the banks of the Napa River and during the warm months, the kitchen staff can be seen cooking outdoors over wood-fired grills. The menu harvests a wide range of global influences, including Spanish, Mexican and Jamaican. Starter plates are diverse and perfect for sharing. The Country Paella - saffron rice with imported chorizo, chicken, shellfish and vegetables - stands out in a menu of meats, fishes and pastas. An adjacent brewery serves award-winning micro-brews. Visit on the weekend for live acoustic music in its pub. Review © 2007, Wcities |

1025 1st St Napa Valley, CA 94559 United States +1 707 252 4707 |
Located in the heart of downtown Napa, this quaint stucco restaurant serves authentic Mexican fare. The ample dining area is comfortable but a little dark. The amiable waitstaff keeps the chips coming even when the restaurant is crowded. The shaded patio, with its marble-topped tables and lawn-style chairs, is wonderful for people watching. The menu features gargantuan burritos, a variety of enchiladas, and several combination plates as well as a decent selection of carnitas and seafood. You will find a full bar with great margaritas and a nice selection of beers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Appetizers include Poached Moulard Duck, Foie Gras au Torchon with Port-braised Mission Fig, and Adriatic Fig Salad. Entrees include Sirloin of Fallow Venison wrapped in Applewood and Smoked Bacon with sweet carrot puree. The French Laundry's extraordinary food is exceeded only by its excellent service.
