Nashville's first microbrewery and eatery
111 Broadway
Nashville, TN 37201
United States
+1 615 251 4677
http://www.gordonbiersch.com/
With eight different brews in its vats at all times, Big River is sure to have a flavor and body to suit your taste. From the light Sweet Magnolia to the stout and hearty Iron Horse Dark, you will find micro-brewed nirvana in downtown Nashville. Pints are $3-5, depending on the brew. Should you get hungry from lifting all those mugs, there is a complete lunch and dinner menu. Entrees range from simple burgers and sandwiches to thick and juicy Drunken Rib-eye ($10.95), a 12-ounce rib-eye marinated in beer and served with veggies and baked potato.

This tiny establishment is cozy but never boring. A small bar and half a dozen tables are always packed. Traditional Italian appetizers and salads begin the meal. The calamari is very good. The chef's featured entree is Lamb Shank Toscana ($16), a tender serving of lamb with a rich wine reduction. A full lunch menu features sandwiches and gourmet pizzas that have wheat dough piled high with your choice of meat and vegetables.

One of the area's finest dining establishments. Special touches include fine linens, candles, crystal and fine china. The quality of food and the exceptional service puts this restaurant in a class of its own. The extensive menu is classic American with a bit of Asian and Cajun influence. Unusual side dishes, such as eggplant fries, and cheese grits add pizzazz to the entrees. The convincing oasis setting at Cascades almost makes you forget you're in a luxury hotel. The tranquil fountains and exotic plants lend themselves perfectly to the seafood menu. Guests of the Opryland Hotel rave about the food and fine service here, but this clever upscale dining experience isn't for hotel guests only. It's perfect for a romantic dinner or business luncheon, and you will love the soft-shell crabs, salmon steaks and scallop ravioli. Start your meal with oysters on the half shell and top off the event with something from the dessert cart, which features a delightfully sinful collection of cakes, pies and tortes.

The charm and elegance of New Orleans restaurant is deliciously alive 20 minutes south of downtown Nashville. You won't see any trolley cars, but you will hear jazz music (performed live in the evenings and during Sunday brunch) and taste the same fabulous food. Blackened Chicken and Bourbon Street Steak are serious choices for serious eaters. Salads, desserts and a full drink menu provide diners with a little lagniappe (something extra). It's Cajun-style food in an environment perfect for a business dinner or a family night out.

The décor is simple and understated, yet elegant and tasteful. Linen tablecloths, dark woods and glass accents lend themselves well to the romantic atmosphere. Start your meal with an outrageously tasty Caesar salad. Choose one of the fresh seafood entrees or a thick, juicy steak so tender it literally falls off the bone. Southwestern chicken pasta is a hot and spicy selection. Alcohol and soft beverages are served.

While you wait for a table, have a drink at the bar and toss peanut shells on the floor. The wait is often long, but the steaks are worth it. The chef starts with a lean cut of choice beef, rubs it with Longhorn's signature spices and grills it to perfection. The succulent filet mignon, the hearty rib eye and the ever popular t-bone are all part of the culinary repertoire. The signature entree, a huge 22-ounce porterhouse steak, is beloved by serious beef lovers. Non-beef eaters can enjoy chicken and seafood dishes.

Downtown business deals, marriage proposals and special nights out require elegant dining. There are few places more elegant than Morton's. Guests are greeted by a friendly hostess and directed to the comfortable bar to wait for their table. The bar is amply stocked with imported and domestic beers, along with fine wine. Once seated in the dark, wood-paneled dining room you will discover the real charm of this restaurant: the food. Steaks and seafood are impressive and served alongside fresh vegetables. Bread and salads complete an elegant, albeit expensive meal. Your evening will cost you at least $100 for two, but is well worth it.

This old plantation house has been the home of the city's finest seafood buffet for over 20 years. Step past the tall white columns, through the double doors and into a piece of Southern history. The tall ceilings and wide windows provide a perfect view of the airplanes taking off from the nearby Nashville airport. It's a strange view from such an elegant establishment, but one glance at the buffet and you will forsake any other sights. Crab legs to lobster, shrimp to prime rib are at the ready. The price is a bit steep, but you can't find this much seafood at this price anywhere else. Dress is business casual, so you can be comfortable in jeans and a polo or a blazer and tie.

You may not think of steak houses as romantic, but this restaurant inside the famed Opryland Hotel is more than a steak house. The rich wood accents and mood lighting do have a romantic quality, but you'll really fall in love with the food. Popular menu items include Filet Mignon ($22.95) and Prime Rib ($18.95), but you'll find New York strip, Porterhouse and T-bone steaks as well. Those with an aversion to red meat should try the fresh seafood and poultry dishes. A bottle of the house wine, a lovely chardonnay, runs $18, and the bar serves mixed drinks as well.

The TGI Friday's is one of the most popular joints around Nashville. Crowds flock here for familiar favorites like Shrimp Friday's or the Texas Skewers (beef, chicken and shrimp sauteed and served with veggies on long skewers). This is the same as any other Friday's you've seen, except that each night the manager instructs the kitchen to "work up" a special item. It may be fried catfish with sauteed onions or a tasty slice of spinach and pesto pizza. Whatever they come up with, diners delight in the change of pace. The bar stays open until 3am and provides libations of all types: import and domestic beers, mixed drinks and a fair wine selection.

Relaxed yet elegant atmosphere is well suited for a romantic dinner or impressing business clients over lunch. Chef Stamps has developed curiously Southern versions of Mediterranean favorites. Her Seared Tuna ($17) is remarkably light and sweet with a hint of spice for heat. The Curried Lamb ($13) with linguini comes in a coconut milk sauce, unusual but charmingly so. Pair it with a glass of the house wine ($6) and you're set for a culinary adventure.
