The Aquarium Restaurant is the perfect blend between a restaurant and an aquarium attraction. Dining is situated around a 200,000 gallon floor-to-ceiling aquarium filled with over 100 different species of tropical fish and sea life, and every seat is a good seat. The menu includes a variety of surf and turf and the servers are knowledgeable about both the menu and the aquarium. The restaurant is conviently located in the Opry Mills Mall and also includes a bar, souvenir shop, and offers opportunities for students to participate in half-day marine biology programs. Directly across from the restaurant is Stingray Reef, a hands-on exhibit owned and operated by the Aquarium Restaurant. -Lynn-nore Chittom

With eight different brews in its vats at all times, Big River is sure to have a flavor and body to suit your taste. From the light Sweet Magnolia to the stout and hearty Iron Horse Dark, you will find micro-brewed nirvana in downtown Nashville. Pints are $3-5, depending on the brew. Should you get hungry from lifting all those mugs, there is a complete lunch and dinner menu. Entrees range from simple burgers and sandwiches to thick and juicy Drunken Rib-eye ($10.95), a 12-ounce rib-eye marinated in beer and served with veggies and baked potato.

It is famous for its unique presentation of Flapjacks—tiny pancakes topped with sauteed lobster, roasted pistachios, apples and Indian spices. The menu changes frequently, but standby favorites include Ostrich, Paella, Cajun Veal Chops and Barbeque Chicken-Crawfish Manicotti. The kitchen isn't the only star here. The bar is a premier spot for gathering with old friends or making new ones. The extensive beer selection includes foreign, domestic and micro-brewed beers and fine wines.

One of the area's finest dining establishments. Special touches include fine linens, candles, crystal and fine china. The quality of food and the exceptional service puts this restaurant in a class of its own. The extensive menu is classic American with a bit of Asian and Cajun influence. Unusual side dishes, such as eggplant fries, and cheese grits add pizzazz to the entrees. Casually elegant dining
73 White Bridge Road
Suite 130
Nashville, TN 37205
United States
+1 615 352 0981

The décor is simple and understated, yet elegant and tasteful. Linen tablecloths, dark woods and glass accents lend themselves well to the romantic atmosphere. Start your meal with an outrageously tasty Caesar salad. Choose one of the fresh seafood entrees or a thick, juicy steak so tender it literally falls off the bone. Southwestern chicken pasta is a hot and spicy selection. Alcohol and soft beverages are served.

Merchant's Restaurant

Depart from the ordinary

The brick and glass exterior is a departure from the historic downtown design, and the art deco lighting highlights the wrought iron and copper fixtures inside. Patrons will enjoy the counter seats surrounding the open kitchen.

The menu here is the same classic that has made Merchant's famous in the Nashville area: crab cakes, Five-Pepper Chicken and robust beef entrees. The express lunch is still available and an expanded children's menu has been added.

New Orleans Manor

Southern Plantation turned Restaurant
1400 Murfreesboro Pike
Nashville, TN 37217
United States
+1 615 367 2777
http://www.neworleansmanor.com/
This old plantation house has been the home of the city's finest seafood buffet for over 20 years. Step past the tall white columns, through the double doors and into a piece of Southern history. The tall ceilings and wide windows provide a perfect view of the airplanes taking off from the nearby Nashville airport. It's a strange view from such an elegant establishment, but one glance at the buffet and you will forsake any other sights. Crab legs to lobster, shrimp to prime rib are at the ready. The price is a bit steep, but you can't find this much seafood at this price anywhere else. Dress is business casual, so you can be comfortable in jeans and a polo or a blazer and tie.

This gourmet deli serves hearty soups and sandwiches that are sure to delight. The light Cream of Vidalia Onion Soup makes lunchtime memorable, seasoned with a bit of oregano. The sandwiches feature fresh meats like turkey, ham and beef, topped with fresh vegetables such as avocados and sun-dried tomatoes. It's not ordinary lunch fare, granted, but the gourmet touch makes a welcome departure from fast food. The cafe has a very friendly, almost festive atmosphere, perfect for casual business lunches.

Opryland Hotel
Nashville, TN 37214
United States

You may not think of steak houses as romantic, but this restaurant inside the famed Opryland Hotel is more than a steak house. The rich wood accents and mood lighting do have a romantic quality, but you'll really fall in love with the food. Popular menu items include Filet Mignon ($22.95) and Prime Rib ($18.95), but you'll find New York strip, Porterhouse and T-bone steaks as well. Those with an aversion to red meat should try the fresh seafood and poultry dishes. A bottle of the house wine, a lovely chardonnay, runs $18, and the bar serves mixed drinks as well.

Contemporary food, old world atmosphere
1705 21st Avenue South
Nashville, TN 37212
United States

A delightful coffee house with obvious European influences. An upscale sandwich shop with creative combinations of meats and breads. A quaint little pasta house with fresh linguine and fettuccini. A French bistro with a varied selection of food which is sure to make even a Parisian tear up thinking of home. A bakery serving gourmet feta and olive loaves. However, you will love the casually elegant atmosphere. Take your friends to a leisurely dinner or meet clients for lunch.

TGI Friday's

Comfortable Atmosphere, Fun Food
5 Opry Mills Drive
Nashville, TN 37214
United States
+1 615 514 4900
http://www.tgifridays.com/
The TGI Friday's is one of the most popular joints around Nashville. Crowds flock here for familiar favorites like Shrimp Friday's or the Texas Skewers (beef, chicken and shrimp sauteed and served with veggies on long skewers). This is the same as any other Friday's you've seen, except that each night the manager instructs the kitchen to "work up" a special item. It may be fried catfish with sauteed onions or a tasty slice of spinach and pesto pizza. Whatever they come up with, diners delight in the change of pace. The bar stays open until 3am and provides libations of all types: import and domestic beers, mixed drinks and a fair wine selection.

Wild Iris

Culinary perfection in Brentwood
127 Franklin St
Nashville, TN 37027
United States
+1 615 370 0871
Works of art normally belong in galleries, but interesting pieces by local artists fill the dining room here.

Daily lunch specials such as wild salad combinations, homemade soups and stews, and gourmet cheeseburgers. The equally intriguing dinner menu includes beef, fish and fowl entrees, all prepared with clever seasonings and trimmings. The Fettuccini with Beef and Wine Sauce is a delightful combination of flavors.

Yellow Porch

Upscale cuisine from Nashville's best chef
734 Thompson Lane
Nashville, TN 37204
United States
+1 615 386 0260
Relaxed yet elegant atmosphere is well suited for a romantic dinner or impressing business clients over lunch. Chef Stamps has developed curiously Southern versions of Mediterranean favorites. Her Seared Tuna ($17) is remarkably light and sweet with a hint of spice for heat. The Curried Lamb ($13) with linguini comes in a coconut milk sauce, unusual but charmingly so. Pair it with a glass of the house wine ($6) and you're set for a culinary adventure.
