Ethiopian flavor in the Music City |
415 Thompson Lane Nashville, TN 37211 United States +1 615 332 0710 |
Your meal is served on large, flat, round bread. This is a staple of the Ethiopian culture and is much like sourdough. The bread is topped with an assortment of fresh vegetables (the Ethiopian diet consists mostly of vegetables and cheese). Small bowls of sauces and spices are brought to your table for dipping. Don't look for utensils, because Ethiopian chow is eaten without fork or knife. Instead, tear off a piece of the thin, pancake like injera bread, scoop up some veggies and dip into your favorite sauce. Imported and domestic beer is served. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nashville's only Persian restaurant |
216 Thompson Lane Nashville, TN 37211 United States +1 615 333 3711 |
Turkish cuisine is not necessarily something Nashville natives are accustomed to, but this small Persian eatery is trying to change that. The pleasant wait staff makes a good first impression, and will gladly help you choose from the many delicious dishes served here. Lamb and beef entrees are accompanied by spicy rice dishes and garden fresh salads. Gyros (pronounced hee-rohs) and kabobs are the most popular lunch items. The soups, prepared fresh daily, are also reliably good. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Antonio's hasn't forgotten that proper presentation, rich ambiance and courteous service are part of what makes a great dining experience. The chef shows off his many talents with creative appetizers and entrees. The spiedini alla Antonio is magnificient—layers of bread and mozzarella dipped in egg and Romano cheese, with black and green olives. Try the rack of lamb marinated with rosemary, thyme and garlic. It is divine. Pasta is bountiful here, and the sauces are rich and full of flavor. Dessert is as tempting as your entree and should not be missed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Nashville Summer Tradition for Over 50 Years |
5301, Charlotte Avenue Nashville, TN 37209 United States +1 615 292 2112 |
Bobbie's Dairy Dip offers authentic drive-in fare including delicious home-style burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings, and amazing soft-serve ice cream. The burgers are all 100 percent Black Angus beef and the Holy Guacamole Burger is especially tasty. The ice cream is rich and creamy and available in vanilla or chocolate, dipped or undipped. With 10 percent dairy fat, it's a dieter's nightmare, but well worth it in flavor. Seating at Bobbie's is patio-style under a tin roof with a well-positioned ceiling fan. It's perfect for a drive-in, but limited, so most guests just order, wait and go. -Lynn-nore Chittom Review © 2007, Wcities |

Legendary motorcycles and burgers |

Theme restaurants come and go, but few allow you to eat your meal atop a Harley Lowrider. Here in this clever diner, patrons are treated to cheeseburgers and smoked sausage sandwiches as good as any around. You can also purchase Harley Davidson clothing, gift items and motorcycle accessories. The decor is strictly "Hell's Angels" but the service is warm and friendly. Saunter back into the motorcycle showroom and pick out your dream hog or straddle one of the motorcycle seat bar stools for breakfast. One thing you won't find here are the immense crowds normally associated with such theme establishments. Expect to pay $7 for a good sized burger, $10 if you choose the fries, and you really should. They are delicious. Review © 2007, Wcities |

These may not be Nashville's best bagels, but this friendly bakery does provide Nashville's fastest and finest service. The good bagels come in a wide variety of flavors, as do the delicious spreads and toppings, but the best feature of this establishment is its speed. The clever ordering system takes some getting used to (place order here, pick up bagel, go find toppings, pay over there) but this assembly-line method gets you in and out in a hurry and on your way to work. Brewed fresh each morning, the coffee is as good as any gourmet blend in town. Lunch includes light sandwiches, soups and, of course, more bagels. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nestled in the quiet setting of Carter's Court, this cozy pub serves classic British "pub grub" and features live music nightly. A warm and friendly wait staff and pleasant atmosphere create a perfect setting to relax over a stout and a juicy steak. But don't get too relaxed, the music starts at 8pm each night, and there is very little quiet time after that. Come early, and enjoy a good meal. There is always a crowd here, and most nights the line out front stretches down the sidewalk. Patience, however, is rewarded. Get ready for giant portions of delicious burritos, combination platters, and fajitas with rice and beans on the side garnished with more cheese than you have ever seen. The fried ice cream is a marvelous ending to your meal, and the $9 margaritas, large enough to serve at least four people, will put you in a festive mood and keep you there most of the night! The convincing oasis setting at Cascades almost makes you forget you're in a luxury hotel. The tranquil fountains and exotic plants lend themselves perfectly to the seafood menu. Guests of the Opryland Hotel rave about the food and fine service here, but this clever upscale dining experience isn't for hotel guests only. It's perfect for a romantic dinner or business luncheon, and you will love the soft-shell crabs, salmon steaks and scallop ravioli. Start your meal with oysters on the half shell and top off the event with something from the dessert cart, which features a delightfully sinful collection of cakes, pies and tortes. This is no place for the lactose intolerant. Cheese comes with everything here, and so does a healthy serving of hospitable service. Since it opened in 1940, El Chico has been pleasing diners with its classic Mexican combinations: tamales, enchiladas, and refried beans. The chef stuffs tons of meat, cheese, and beans into everything he prepares, from tacos, to burritos, to delicious chimichangas. Sometimes forgotten amidst the mass of other eateries near Lion's Head Cinema, this classic American diner made a name for itself with simple, elegant food and outstanding service. Malts, shakes and burgers are standard fare here, but they are far from ordinary; they are made with real milk and are thick and creamy; burgers are enormous and come dressed with everything from mushrooms and Swiss cheese to slices of smoked turkey. The best selection on the menu is the chicken salad quesadilla, but the eclectic menu has something for everyone. A visit here is not complete without the chocolate malt pie. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The little town of Franklin is famous for its rich history and its antique galleries, but this family-style restaurant may boost Franklin's popularity a bit more. Locating a restaurant next to a farmer's market makes fresh food easy to come by. Enjoy the absolute best vegetables and fruit, as well as fresh baked bread and dessert. Fried chicken is the best item on the menu, but the Country-Style Steak and Gravy is worth a try too. The pick of the litter, however, is the Fresh Veggie Plate. These delicious and juicy burgers range in size from your typical quarter pounder to an impressive 27 ounces of freshly cooked ground beef. If you're looking for a burger that tastes like homemade, this is definitely the place to go. For all of the tasty toppings – grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, BBQ sauce, and jalapeños – be sure to order your burger "Like Deluxe." It costs a dollar more, but adds a whole lot of flavor. Take a little Cracker Barrel and mix it with some Grand Ole Opry and you've got Marcy Jo's. A mercantile, white clapboard from the 1800's has been refurbished as a restaurant serving the best Southern cuisine this side of the Mississippi. Their menu changes daily but it's more like mama's kitchen where you might get to pick your side dish but the entree is what it is. You can check the chalkboard up front for your choices and if it's the third Saturday of the month you can enjoy live musical entertainment. Marcy Jo's is a true Southern experience. Comfort food and country music combine to bring on that homey feeling that makes satisfied customers loyal patrons. - Kelly Sons Review © 2007, Wcities |

Depart from the ordinary |
401 Broadway Nashville, TN 37203 United States +1 615 254 1892 http://www.merchantsrestaurant... |
The brick and glass exterior is a departure from the historic downtown design, and the art deco lighting highlights the wrought iron and copper fixtures inside. Patrons will enjoy the counter seats surrounding the open kitchen. The menu here is the same classic that has made Merchant's famous in the Nashville area: crab cakes, Five-Pepper Chicken and robust beef entrees. The express lunch is still available and an expanded children's menu has been added. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This hometown bakery makes the great rolls and breads found in local grocery stores, but visitors to the downtown Franklin area can enjoy some of the bakery's other treats. Biscuits, doughnuts and muffins make good breakfast choices. Sit down for a leisurely lunch with chicken salad sandwiches served on the shop's famous fresh baked bread. Planning a picnic? Ask for sandwiches, desserts and lemonade to go before you head out into the Tennessee countryside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Southern Plantation turned Restaurant |
1400 Murfreesboro Pike Nashville, TN 37217 United States +1 615 367 2777 http://www.neworleansmanor.com/ |
This old plantation house has been the home of the city's finest seafood buffet for over 20 years. Step past the tall white columns, through the double doors and into a piece of Southern history. The tall ceilings and wide windows provide a perfect view of the airplanes taking off from the nearby Nashville airport. It's a strange view from such an elegant establishment, but one glance at the buffet and you will forsake any other sights. Crab legs to lobster, shrimp to prime rib are at the ready. The price is a bit steep, but you can't find this much seafood at this price anywhere else. Dress is business casual, so you can be comfortable in jeans and a polo or a blazer and tie. You may not think of steak houses as romantic, but this restaurant inside the famed Opryland Hotel is more than a steak house. The rich wood accents and mood lighting do have a romantic quality, but you'll really fall in love with the food. Popular menu items include Filet Mignon ($22.95) and Prime Rib ($18.95), but you'll find New York strip, Porterhouse and T-bone steaks as well. Those with an aversion to red meat should try the fresh seafood and poultry dishes. A bottle of the house wine, a lovely chardonnay, runs $18, and the bar serves mixed drinks as well. Hot and spicy chicken |
123 Ewing Drive Nashville, TN 37207-2960 United States +1 615 226 9442 |
Forget about fast food chicken sandwiches that claim to be spicy, this is the real thing. Four levels of heat are available: mild, which is frightfully spicy in its own right; medium, which will make you grimace in painful bliss; hot, which is seriously life threatening; extra hot—don't try this unless you have medical personnel nearby. Sandwiches are served with pickle spears and beans or slaw. Vending machines provide carbonated refreshment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Poetry readings on Wednesday nights and live music on Fridays and Saturdays create a 1960s feel. Well, it may not be world famous, but in Nashville everyone knows about Tex and his barbecue lunch specials.
