Nashville, TN 37209
United States
+1 615 292 2112
Bobbie's Dairy Dip offers authentic drive-in fare including delicious home-style burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings, and amazing soft-serve ice cream. The burgers are all 100 percent Black Angus beef and the Holy Guacamole Burger is especially tasty. The ice cream is rich and creamy and available in vanilla or chocolate, dipped or undipped. With 10 percent dairy fat, it's a dieter's nightmare, but well worth it in flavor. Seating at Bobbie's is patio-style under a tin roof with a well-positioned ceiling fan. It's perfect for a drive-in, but limited, so most guests just order, wait and go. -Lynn-nore Chittom

Cock of the Walk

Historic name, historic food
2624 Music Valley Drive
Nashville, TN 37214-1208
United States
+1 615 889 1930
At the turn of the century, Nashville's waterways were filled with catfish, traders and every type of bandit. Each ship passing along the Cumberland River would appoint one of the crew members as the 'Cock of the Walk' or lookout against thieves and aggressors. Today, the Cumberland is a tranquil place, which still provides catfish for this restaurant bearing the name of those brave crewmen. Your server, in period uniform, will bring you a plateful of catfish, either broiled, grilled, fried or almond-crusted, the likes of which you've never tasted. Enjoy a drink from the bar and sample one of the delicious appetizers while you wait for your meal. Don't be surprised to see some of country music's best and brightest dining at the next table.

The charm and elegance of New Orleans restaurant is deliciously alive 20 minutes south of downtown Nashville. You won't see any trolley cars, but you will hear jazz music (performed live in the evenings and during Sunday brunch) and taste the same fabulous food. Blackened Chicken and Bourbon Street Steak are serious choices for serious eaters. Salads, desserts and a full drink menu provide diners with a little lagniappe (something extra). It's Cajun-style food in an environment perfect for a business dinner or a family night out.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you'll bebop to the oldies music blaring throughout the dining area, and you'll enjoy the lively banter between the wait staff and the kitchen. It's almost a '50s-style diner setting, without the pink neon and soda counter. The food here is almost as good as the atmosphere. The magnificent Overstuffed Baked Potato is a large Idaho potato baked to perfection and topped with butter, barbecue and cheese. Barbecue beef, chicken and turkey sandwiches and platters satisfy your hot and spicy cravings. Kids have their own menu featuring "pint-sized" barbecue sandwiches, chicken wings and hotdogs. Corky's serves domestic and imported beer in bottles and on tap.

Family dining isn't always easy to find in the Melrose area of Nashville, but this comfortable eatery provides a pleasant atmosphere and good food at a very reasonable price. Breakfast is the best time to experience this place, and it is indeed an experience. Waitresses rush from table to table serving dishes of eggs and sausage, pancakes and bacon, grits and biscuits. Lunch is typical meat-and-three fare, with chicken or beef entrees served with two side items. Mashed potatoes, creamed corn, white beans, turnip greens and spinach are some of the delicious sides. Vegetable plates are an option for those looking for something almost healthy here.

The little town of Franklin is famous for its rich history and its antique galleries, but this family-style restaurant may boost Franklin's popularity a bit more. Locating a restaurant next to a farmer's market makes fresh food easy to come by. Enjoy the absolute best vegetables and fruit, as well as fresh baked bread and dessert. Fried chicken is the best item on the menu, but the Country-Style Steak and Gravy is worth a try too. The pick of the litter, however, is the Fresh Veggie Plate. Choose five vegetables from over a dozen options and enjoy a healthy and delicious lunch or dinner. Early risers will love the breakfast menu filled with traditional Southern favorites like buttermilk biscuits and grits.

Take a little Cracker Barrel and mix it with some Grand Ole Opry and you've got Marcy Jo's. A mercantile, white clapboard from the 1800's has been refurbished as a restaurant serving the best Southern cuisine this side of the Mississippi. Their menu changes daily but it's more like mama's kitchen where you might get to pick your side dish but the entree is what it is. You can check the chalkboard up front for your choices and if it's the third Saturday of the month you can enjoy live musical entertainment. Marcy Jo's is a true Southern experience. Comfort food and country music combine to bring on that homey feeling that makes satisfied customers loyal patrons. - Kelly Sons

This is the same as any other Friday's you've seen, except that each night the manager instructs the kitchen to "work up" a special item. It may be fried catfish with sauteed onions or a tasty slice of spinach and pesto pizza. Whatever they come up with, diners delight in the change of pace. Relaxed yet elegant atmosphere is well suited for a romantic dinner or impressing business clients over lunch. Chef Stamps has developed curiously Southern versions of Mediterranean favorites. Her Seared Tuna ($17) is remarkably light and sweet with a hint of spice for heat. The Curried Lamb ($13) with linguini comes in a coconut milk sauce, unusual but charmingly so. Pair it with a glass of the house wine ($6) and you're set for a culinary adventure.
