A cigar sign that really smokes hangs outside this pale green building with its typical French Quarter balcony. It draws a lot of interest from tourists wondering if, perhaps,, the building is on fire. But the only thing that really smokes here are the patrons. Open doors and ceiling fans keep this Latin cultured humidor relatively smoke free. You may enjoy your premium quality stogie with coffee or your choice of liquor. While you inhale and indulge, take a moment to notice the Latin American imports. Browse through the hammocks, handcarved masks, handwoven baskets and Mayan artifacts collected from Nicaragua, Colombia and Honduras. Hardwood tables and chairs are strategically placed for optimum people watching while you enjoy one of its many fine cigars that include: Louisiana Perique, Ashton, Cohiba, Corona, and rare, decades-old vintage cigars. Cigars of more recent vintage range in price from USD2.95 for singles to hundreds of dollars for a box of 10 or 25. Older cigars run as much as USD95 each.

At times the French Quarter can appear to be a world within itself. So it only seems natural that it has its own alternative post office. Located on one of the most famous streets in New Orleans is this stationer-emporium that offers all the services that the United States Post Office does. It is convenient to all hotels and shops in the Quarter, so it is easy to find that perfect post card and mail it all in one outing. Also offered are mailbox, packing and shipping services as well as a nice selection of cards and stationary.

Stand out with a few threads from this unisex shop, which houses vintage clothes with a twist. It's easy to get carried away at this thrift store, especially when you dig the "Swingers" look. Sort through heaps of garments; you are bound to wind up with an enviable ensemble if you know how to mix and match. Concert tees share shelf space with a few original designs, glittery '50s tops, flowery '60s skirts and '80s rock-styled rags. A few cheerful Hawaiian shirts and retro swimwear will appeal to the free-spirited. The store is always populated by peppy tourists and locals monkeying around with other stuff on display like wigs, handbags, stockings and shoes. If you should find yourself with a load of duds you are hesitant to wear in public, fear not—there's always Halloween!

Old has made a comeback in a big way this century. It's the height of sophistication for the home to be furnished with inlaid period furniture. The older it is, the better. Ornate, intricate, hand-crafted, and chiseled are the different kind of designs that appeal to the masses today. There are various stores that make dead ringer copies but nothing can replace the charm of the real McCoy. Imagine caressing the smooth, polished surface of a Beidermeier and realizing that the piece once graced a stately lord's mansion and now, you possess it.

Pick your kind of fun at this lively centre. Housed in an old mill, its name is derived from the three materials that were once produced here - twine, rope and paper. Today, however, it's a whole new ball game. You can boogey away on the dance floors, relax at a bar, take in some fine art at the art galleries or catch a live gig at the concert venues. This 91-year old building even has convention spaces for meetings, shows and trade fairs. The extensive line-up this February presents a different act every day of the week. With such entertainment on offer, its no surprise that the place has become a haunt for celebrities as well.

New Orleans is known as the child of France, so it seems only natural that there be a store dedicated to purely French items. This is the only place in New Orleans that fits the bill with French magazines, soaps from Provence and French cheeses as well as pate, antiques and more. Tres Francais!
