This theater was founded in 1963 and has won over thirty Obie awards in its lifetime. It is a non-profit, off-Broadway venue that is proud to offer interesting and innovative plays by diverse American writers. The American Place Theater's Literature to Life promotes literacy through performances; they feature verbatim adaptations of major American literary pieces.
