This 1849 Neo-Gothic building was originally a Jewish temple. It houses an eclectic arts center that showcases live music, theatre and art from around the world. The center was founded by sculptor Angel Orensanz as part of an effort to revitalize the Lower East Side. The beautiful building, which had also once served as a cathedral, had fallen into disrepair. Now thanks to the foundation, it is one of the Lower East Side's most beloved institutions and hosts the annual Vision Festival. The centre is closed on Mondays (except in July and August), Christmas and New Year's.
