Built in 1925, this venue was originally known as the Guild Theater, after which it was re-christened Virginia Theater. The name finally settled down to August Wilson Theatre, and in 1985 it was designated a New York City landmark. Plays and musicals are performed here on a regular basis; a comfortable lounge and lobby area is there to mill around after or before shows. While the beautiful Roman arches and columns give it a very grandiose look, the earthy tones, low lighting and unique textured walls provide that upscale touch. It can hold an audience of about 1,300 persons.
