Degustation

European melange
239 East 5th Street
New York, NY 10003
+1 212 979 1012
The name is French, the interiors Japanese, the wine list international and the cooking Franco-Spanish, thus making this wood-n'-stone joint a favorite with one and all. A 16-seat bar dominates the scene, and the venue fills up quickly. Folks come here hankering after the much-raved-about crispy croquetas, golden-brown and overflowing with potato puree, apple and serrano chile. Almost every dish is given an eclectic twist, like the short-rib stuffed squid, or if you are here for a quick bite, the sashimi rib-eye on toast with green herbs (otherwise known as a roast beef sandwich). Polish it all off with a few grilled strawberries with ginger and eucalyptus oils, that leave a refreshing and unique aftertaste. A reasonable tasting menu allows first-timers to decide on their favorites, but those with a voracious appetite might not be sated, so watch out!
