This museum first opened to the public in a schoolroom in 1969. Now located in East Harlem's Heckscher Building (and recently renovated), it has the distinction of being the only Latin American Museum in the Northeast. Its permanent collection, with an emphasis on Puerto Rico, is composed of over 8,000 paintings, prints, drawings, photos and sculptures. Through rotating exhibits and outreach programs, their mission is to educate and promote Latin American art and cultural heritage. Review © 2009, Wcities |
