Here is a text about the world... from artist Diana Thater, is a video exhibition about chess and falconry. It is actually a convergence of two separate exhibitions which, according to Thater, is pure coincidence. The exhibit features videos of famous chess games, including a recreation of the famous "Immortal Game", played in 1851 by Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky. Besides these notorious matches, Thater also pays tribute to Lewis Carroll, playing out Alice's chess problem from "Through the Looking Glass". In conjunction with the chess exhibit is also another video installation about falconers and falconry. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A downtown Halloween parade |
On Sixth Avenue (From Spring Street to 21st Street) New York, NY 10011 United States http://www.halloween-nyc.com |
This event is New York City's version of Mardi Gras. Crowds come from all over to observe and take part in this yearly downtown ritual, which started off as a much smaller parade more than 25 years ago. Come for the outrageous and often inventive costumes, good music and high spirits, or dress up yourself. Get there before sunset, because it starts around 7pm and can get quite crowded. The parade originates at Spring Street in Soho and proceeds up Sixth Avenue, concluding at 23rd Street. Free admission. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sweet music to the ears |
Between 5th & 6th Avenues West 3rd & 6th Streets (Venue) New York, NY 10014 United States +1 212 252 3621 (Organizers) http://www.washingtonsquaremus... info@washingtonsquaremusicfestival.org |
The Southeast quadrant of Washington Square Park is a great place to chill out on a summer evening listening to favorite symphonies by young performers. But if you want all this, make sure you go there during the Washington Square Music Festival. Famous performers like William Schimmel and Allyssa Lamb have performed in the past. Come rain or shine the beat goes on; there is a rain proof zone if the clouds decide to pour. Although the event is free, arrive early if you want to secure a seat that allows a good view of the performers. Or bring your own chair and relax wherever you please while you listen to the music rise up over the park. Review © 2007, Wcities |
