This small, quiet bar is a haven for West Village locals looking to get away from the furious pace of Manhattan, even if only for a little while. There are the usual darts and pool games available. More interesting is the live music, available downstairs in the "Speakeasy" Tuesday to Thursday from 9:30p, and from 10:30p on weekends. An assortment of folk rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, funk and soul graces Fred's subterranean seat-lined space, with dancing room in the middle. The cover charge ranges from free to $5.
