This 26.2-mile race covers all five boroughs, from Staten Island to Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and finally ending by the famous Tavern on the Green restaurant in Manhattan's Central Park. It attracts approximately 35,000 participants every year, as well as thousands of spectators. Runners range from the world's greatest marathoners to people dressed up in gorilla suits and wedding dresses. A finish-line banquet is held at Tavern on the Green following the race. The race always takes place the first Sunday in November. Free for spectators; entrants can apply by mail or online via the website.
