When dining at an Indian restaurant in the East Village, the question must arise—how tacky do you want your experience to be? If the answer is "not very," then Passage To India may be your best bet. It has the simplest décor of the approximately 20 Indian restaurants that line 6th Street between First and Second avenues. Chandeliers and sponged orange walls impart an elegant, almost conservative ambiance. Other pluses include the good food and cheap prices.
