A branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, Stone Avenue first opened in 1914 as the world's first children's library. Designed in a whimsical arts and crafts style, the building stands as an architectural testament to its roots in children's literature. Located in Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood, Stone Avenue is part of the New York Horticultural Society's Green Branch program, a long-term plan to bring beautiful gardens to the city's public library's. As a result, Stone Avenue is a visual wonder of flowers and plants, providing aesthetically pleasing outdoor extensions of the library, the ideal setting for story-telling for children of all ages.
