Medallion Taxis are the distinctive yellow cabs famously associated with New York City. They are regulated by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). To hail a taxi, simply raise your arm when an available car approaches; only ones with their numbers illuminated atop the car are in service and not being used. As a taxi rider, you have the right to choose the route used, travel to any destination in the five boroughs of New York City, and have air conditioning or heat on demand.
