For over 30 years, West Indian Americans have been celebrating their history with this five-day carnival. The festivities include concerts, a Children's Carnival (a parade for kids between St. John's Place and Kingston Avenue in Brooklyn), costume competitions, and the West Indian American Day Parade. It is perhaps best known by the vibrant dress of the marchers and dancers, and these costumes are often works of art depicting aspects of the rich and eclectic history of the Caribbean people.
