Like bagels and lox, knishes have a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers. Once consumed largely by Jews living in the neighborhood, the knishes at Yonah Schimmel's are now enjoyed by people from all over the city. They will even ship these wonderful and authentic treats via their Web site. The bakery has been open since 1910, and not much has changed since then-it is still run by Yonah Schimmel's heirs, and the knishes continue to be filled with fresh ingredients like cheese or potatoes and baked daily.
