Taking place in Potters Park in the central suburb of Mt Eden, the festival has two stages showcasing performers, from more than 50 nations, resident in Auckland today. Launched in 1996, this day-long event tours Auckland and five Australian cities annually. Major international acts are in the line up as well as local New Zealand and Australian bands. There are three stages with continuous music, as well as The Boiler Room tent for house music. Food and beverage stalls keep the energy levels high. Formerly known as the Canterbury A & P Show and running for well over 100 years, this four-day event is the big day out for Cantabrians. Traditionally the highlight of the farming and agricultural calendar, with livestock competitions and farm equipment demonstrations, it is now a major entertainment event, including an international carnival area complete with roller coaster. The show has kept pace with the changing face of Canterbury farming and manufacturing and now includes a science and technology display, the local wine and food stalls, and a diverse range of livestock from sheep to emus. One of the city's favorite annual events, the Farmers Santa Parade was launched in 1947. Anyone who grew up in Auckland will remember standing in sweltering heat waiting in eager anticipation for the parade to start. It takes 50 minutes for the floats and some 4,000 performers to pass. The parade is followed by a party for the children in Aotea Square. This includes activities and prizes, entertainment on stage, and a visit by Santa and celebrities. Review © 2007, Wcities |

To Cantabrians (local people) it is Lancaster Park; to the rest of world it is Jade Stadium--the stomping ground for major sporting events such as Super 12 rugby, and international rugby and cricket. Jade Stadium is currently undergoing extensive redevelopment, aspiring to the title of the ultimate spectator stadium and sporting landmark. The ground currently holds up to 30,000 screaming sports fans, with all facilities catered for. Jade Stadium is notorious for its vibrant embankment, with many a visiting team wishing they were somewhere else. This annual 50-kilometre mountain biking race traverses three hills, 12 water crossings and eight kilometres through a scenic forest to the finish line, and if you survive, you may just win a prize! Prizes are given for grade winners, the best dressed, and the first retro (finishing on a bike with no suspension or clip on pedals!).
