In the winter, the park is open for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and ice fishing. You'll find a transient marina with 80 boat slips, athletic fields, nature trails and picnic grounds. Operated by the same family since 1894, this popular farm market offers fruit and vegetables grown on their farm, as well as homemade baked goods, ice cream and other products. They even have their own winery, Vizcarra Vineyards, which features fruit wines made from produce grown on the farm. The most popular time to visit the farm is in the fall, when visitors can pick their own apples and pumpkins. There is usually a festival held every weekend during September and October. Situated within Queenston Heights Park about 10 kilometres north of the Falls, this monument serves as a tribute to Major-General Isaac Brock, the British commander who lost his life here defending the area during the War of 1812. Fifty-six metres high, the impressive monument was built in 1856 and replaces an earlier one blown up by a massive gunpowder blast in 1840. This festival, put on by the city of Port Colborne, is in honour of the world-famous Welland Canal, which starts here and winds its way to Lake Ontario. Over 100,000 visitors come for a community-wide celebration that includes tall ship cruises, multi-cultural events and cuisine, a kids' area, live concerts, an antique car and motorcycle show, and a massive fireworks display. What started as a devotional center for Our Lady of Fatima in 1954 has blossomed into a 20-acre outdoor shrine, with over 125 life-sized statues, a glass-domed basilica, and a rosary shaped pond. Located in Lewiston, the center was the creation of the Barnabite Fathers, an Italian order hoping to spread the message of Fatima to North America. The center features a 13-foot granite statue of the Virgin Mary atop the Dome Church as well as Carrara marble statues of Jesus and a replica of the original Chapel of Apparitions.
