Heavy metal mania |
Torggaten 16 (Rockefeller Music Hall) Oslo 0181 Norway +47 22 83 0050 http://www.infernofestival.net |
Described by the organisers as "the greatest gathering of Norwegian heavy metal bands in Norway.... ever!," the annual Inferno Festival features some 20 bands thrashing away on two stages for two nights in Oslo's Rockerfeller Music Hall. Norway's biggest metal festival attracts thousands of headbangers from all over Europe, the sight of which should be enough to strike fear into the hearts of any weak-nerved local residents. Past events have included the talents of Behemoth, Carpathian Forest, Eternal Silence and Zection 8. Review © 2007, Wcities |

May 17th, Norway's Independence Day, is celebrated by Norwegians all over the world, but the celebrations in the capital city of Oslo hold special significance. They mark the liberation of the country from Danish rule, and the signing of the first constitution. Throughout Oslo, there are parades in the streets, hoistings of the national flag, speeches, and the laying of wreaths at monuments of significance. Church services are also held, and the citizens of Norway dress up in traditional garb to mark the special occasion. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Major rock festival |
Frognerbadet Oslo Norway http://www.norwegianwood.no/ |
The Norwegian Wood rock festival is held every June in downtown Oslo, in the scenic Frognerbadet, an open-air bath whose pools can be used during the festival. The festival was founded more than a decade ago and has now advanced into one of Scandinavia's best-known music festivals, attracting some of the biggest names in the business. Stars like Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Suede appear on the same bill as little-known, local bands. The atmosphere is unbeatable. Review © 2007, Wcities |
