Bar Boca

Excellent cocktails
Thorvald Meyers gate 30
Oslo 0555
Norway
+47 22 04 1080
This is probably one of Oslo's most intimate bars, with enough room only for five small tables. The atmosphere is warm, kept in a subtle 1950s style. Its main attraction is actually its owner, Jan Vardøen. He is one of Norway's few enthusiasts when it comes to mixing cocktails, and his skills have made him a minor celebrity. If you want the best in drinks, this is one of the places you should definitely visit.

Cafe Lorry

Artists' classic
Parkveien 12

Traditionally a meeting place for artists, it has recently become popular with a mixed crowd of musicians, bohemians, actors and students. Lorry has close to 200 different beers, a good Norwegian menu and a buzzing atmosphere. There are comfy leather sofas and the art on the wall exude elegance. Lorry is located very close to the palace. Those wishing to combine culinary and artistic experiences will also find Kunstnernes Hus and Asur gallery nearby.

Catwalk Café & Nightclub

Hot spot for pretty people
Kristian Augusts gt. 14
Oslo 0164
Norway
+47 22 20 1646
The concept is a hot spot for the fashion business. So far the clientele mainly consists of wannabe models in their 20s, a lot of hopeful boys and not very many serious fashion gurus. The interior has been designed just like a giant catwalk and randomly placed spotlights illuminate the minimalist interior. The music consists of pop hits. The minimum age for admission is 24. The nightclub does have a dress code but this doesn't mean they'll sneer at last season's collection.

Herr Nilsen

Classic jazz haunt
C. J. Hambros plass 5

There is one of these in every major city and happily also one in Oslo: a place that looks like jazz, feels like jazz, smells like jazz and definitely sounds like jazz. Herr Nilsen is a small and intimate jazz café with regular concerts on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff always friendly. Light snack food is available. This is the kind of place where you can sit back and relax.
