Whether it's for family outings, power lunches or late night munchies, locals flock to this downtown diner for great eats 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The house specialty is smoked salmon, but try the local favorite Poutine for a real dining treat. This French Canadian specialty consists of fries, gravy and cheese curds, but other specialty toppings include chili, smoked meat, bacon and onions. Breakfast is also served 24 hours a day.

+1 613 789 9191 This Rideau Street deli, owned by restaurateur and impresario Dave Smith, has been an Ottawa institution for almost 40 years. As you enter you pass the take-out counter, where you can get a pound of Smoked Meat, a loaf of Rye Bread and a large jar of Kosher Dills. Once inside, Nate's menu is pure deli, featuring traditional smoked meat sandwiches, potato latkes and combination sandwiches with names like "The Liberace," "The Ginger Rogers" and Ottawa's native son, "The Paul Anka."

Featuring "comfort food like mom used to make," the menu is extensive and varied and includes traditional burgers and sandwiches as well as various Blue Plate Specials: Meatloaf with Gravy (CAD8.99) and Liver and Onions with bacon and mushrooms (CAD8.99). The breakfast menu is also quite impressive and can be ordered any time. There is a kid's menu and a discount for seniors.
