Canada's oldest department store |
73 Rideau St (At Sussex) Ottawa, ON K1N 5W8 Canada +1 613 241 7511 / +1 866 746 7422 http://www.hbc.com/ |
Canada's oldest department store, incorporated in 1670 when a royal charter was granted by King Charles II, is alive and well in the new millennium. The Rideau Centre location has just about every department imaginable: beauty salon, dry cleaners, optical centre, watch repair, wigs, souvenirs, restaurant, name-brand fashions, cosmetics and gift registry. A solarium passage over Rideau Street allows shoppers to enter the store on the second floor. Ground level entrances lead to the Byward Market. Another Bay store is located in the St-Laurent Shopping Centre (+1 613 748 6105). Review © 2007, Wcities |

House of miniatures |
9 Murray Street Ottawa, ON K1N 9M5 Canada +1 613 241 1183 |
Walking into this tiny store in Ottawa's Byward Market district is like walking into a dollhouse. The place is filled with miniature items from doll furniture to picture frames, carpets and candle sticks. And, oh yes, they also sell dollhouses. The staff is friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. It's a browser's paradise as well, for children and adults alike - many items here are meant to be looked at as much as bought. Wild and wacky toys |
809 Bank St Ottawa, ON K1N 9J7 Canada +1 613 234 3836 |
Toys for any child of any age are available in this feast-for-the-senses toy shop. Colourful interactive displays dominate the expansive store in the heart of the Glebe on Bank Street. Cheerful staff members are helpful with finding specific items and suggesting gift ideas. A selection of books, patterned plastic furniture and bizarre games graces each of the bright yellow, blue and red walls. Adults beware! You'll have to dodge excited children experimenting with the goods. Also located in the Rideau, Bayshore and Place d'OrlĂ©ans shopping Centres. Review © 2007, Wcities |
