This magnificent house has been the home of the Dukes of Marlborough since 1704, when Queen Anne gave a ruined royal manor and dukedom to John Churchill as a gift for his victory at the battle of Blenheim on the Danube. Winston Churchill also happened to be born here - look out for the Churchill exhibition, which includes the bed he was born on, and many personal belongings, including books, photographs and letters. Situated midway between Oxford and Cheltenham and set out on 160 acres of landscaped parkland, this park offers a wealth of attractions for all ages to enjoy. White rhinos, Asiatic lions and birds of prey are just some of the regular attractions, but there are also many special one-off events, such as car rallies. Families will love the cafeteria, adventure playground, picnic areas and narrow-gauge railway which runs from April until October. The museum houses a mixture of fifty fully and partly restored buses and coaches, lovingly renovated to show their former glory. Many of them are still roadworthy. As a collection, they give a memorable picture of our transport heritage. Long Hanborough rail station is a short walk away from the museum and these fine vehicles will appeal to all the family. The War Memorial Garden was laid out in 1925 and commemorates all Oxford people - whether from the city or the university - who died in the First World War. The garden is close to Christ Church College and provides visitors with a peaceful spot in a fairly busy part of the city, usually bustling with tourists and students.
