Although it is run by the Comédie-Française, this slightly lesser-known venue has a less austere image, and often stages more modern works. Founded in 1913, the Vieux-Colombier has often been host to premieres of works by the greatest playwrights of our time, as well as to more than a few intellectual battles. The theater was acquired by the French government in 1986 and beautifully renovated in 1993, and it is one of the three theaters of the Comédie Française. Review © 2009, Wcities
