Most visitors to the Eglise de L'Assomption in Auvers-sur-Oise are likely to have seen the church before; it was rendered immortal by Van Gogh in his 1890 painting, now part of the Musée d'Orsay collection. It was built towards the end of the 11th century as a simple chapel, with the apse and steeple added in 1170 and the church body constructed between 1190 and 1220. The church holds many works of religious art, from a restored 17th century painting to the 20th century organ with three keyboards.
