Classified as Monument Historique and Bâtiment de France, the Notre-Dame of Boulogne-Billancourt was constructed between 1319 and 1450. It is a place of pilgrimage close to the capital, and was originally a project of Philippe V. Inside, the restored 19th century decor is a rare example of its style. Much of the iconography and symbolism represents the ocean - waves, fish, dolphins, and rivers - in honor of the Virgin Mary as the protector of sailors and navigators. Review © 2009, Wcities
