La Galerie Colbert, now sheltering the Institut national d'histoire de l'art and the l'Institut national du patrimoine, arose as an architectural feat with a long history. It partially incorporates the Hôtel Colbert, a mansion built between 1634 and 1637, which was the first creation of Louis Le Vau. That house's facade was preserved as part of the Galerie Colbert, which originally opened in 1827. Today, hundreds of researchers, students, and conservators populate the five floors of the Galerie. Many conferences, colloquiums, exhibits, lectures, and retrospectives are hosted here. Review © 2009, Wcities |
