In 1860, the Cabaret des Assassins opened in this building; in the late 19th century, the Lapin Agile (Agile Rabbit, but also a play on the word Gill, the name of the artist responsible for the sign over the door) frequently hosted artists like Jacob, Picasso, and Apollinaire. Legendary singer Aristide Bruant bought it in 1902. Nowadays, poetry is the speciality of the house. The walls are covered with souvenirs and paintings, poems and testimonies. Every night, wonderful singers and poets perform a four-hour show; the atmosphere is downright touching. Review © 2009, Wcities |
