Created in 1798, this cemetery is almost as famous as Père-Lachaise cemetery. The final resting place for many great French and foreign artists, visitors can meditate at the graveside of writers Alfred de Vigny, Stendhal and Heinrich Heine, painter and sculptor Degas, film director François Truffaut, dancer Nijinski or composers Offenbach and Berlioz. Their tombstones are occasionally monuments in themselves. Guided tours can be arranged by phoning for further information.
