Chef Pascal Barbot's culinary creations make up for the small size of the restaurant. The restaurant is extremely popular since its debut in 2000. Close to the Eiffel Tower, this wee spot attracts tourists and locals alike. Contemporary interior design, with mirrors and bright colors, is well-matched by the cuisine, which is unusual, but delectable. A carefully chosen wine list reflects tastes from the vineyards of Southern France. Mussels and scallops are fresh, and are served with generous portions of garnish, nuts and fruit. Meats are juicy and are served with crisp, golden-brown breads. Do try out the unusual Ravioli, with avocado and crabmeat fillings, sprinkled with salted almonds. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This restaurant serves good old Anglo-Saxon cuisine (fish and chips with tartare sauce, roast lamb with mint sauce), with vintage Bordeaux. There may be French wines, but don't worry "Bordeaux is a former British province," or so they reassure us. There's also a large whisky cellar, in the grand Scottish tradition. A business clientele fills the place at lunchtime, evenings see couples dining under the watchful eye of Bertie, as Queen Victoria's husband was affectionately known, whose portraits hang on the walls. This Italian restaurant is an institution in Neuilly (Western suburb of Paris). In the evening and during the weekend, you'll most probably find families who live in this chic area eating here. At lunch-time on weekdays, businessmen, tired of the local City, La Défense, come here. This place is also very popular with local advertising folk. A wave of good humour seems to ripple through this bar-restaurant which the former rugby-playing owner has made into a haven of peace, quiet... and feasting. The district may not strike you as particularly welcoming, but you will not find a more authentic bistrot. People working nearby have made this their regular haunt and they contribute to the friendly atmosphere, eating elbow to elbow without so much as a murmer of complaint. The chef imports all produce fresh from Lozère where he originates, and it is full of rustic flavours. Who could be happier than a Frenchman with good bread and good wine on his table...? Good or bad? |
6 Rue Balzac Paris 75008 France +33 1 5836 1250 http://www.pierre-gagnaire.com |
Omnipresent in the press, one of the most talented French chefs, Pierre Gagnaire, is highly acclaimed by international food critics. His Paris restaurant (he also opened one in New York and in Tokyo) was awarded a third star by Michelin in 2007 and ranked third best restaurant in the world by British magazine Restaurant, calling its chef "France's Genial Culinary Magician". If haute cuisine is an art, Pierre Gagnaire is a virtuoso. Accommodating the most exquisite ingredients with the most surprising flavors in unexpected combinations, the chef delivers on his promising menu. Praised dishes include, the Faux Vol-au-Vent et Champignon Sauvage (crawfish in a Pouilly-fuissé reduction served with wild mushrooms), the Turbot et Friseli (roasted turbot served with lettuce velouté), the Fricassée de Homard Bleu (blue lobster), and the Ris et Rognon de Veau (calf sweetbread in papaya and walnut juice). Indulge for dessert with the Neuf Dessert de Pierre Gagnaire, a selection of nine desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Ichibaan in Paris! |
4 Rue Arsène-Houssaye Paris 75008 France +33 1 4289 1622 |
The most unique feature of this restaurant near L'Arc de Triomphe is its blend of Japanese and traditional French cooking methods. Chef Taderu Yoshino's effort has been applauded by critics as well as locals and tourists. Inside the swish interiors of this restaurant, you can gorge on specialties, such as Eel Blanquette, Tête de Veau, Cabbage-Truffle Terrine and Langoustines in a 'cappuccino' of green lentils. If you're still not convinced about the Franco-Japanese mélange, then go in for the chef's menu that changes regularly. The fact that the dishes are prepared with organic ingredients makes them even more tempting to health freaks. So if you're looking for experimental French cuisine sans calories, then Stella Maris can sure help you out! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Robuchon's Second |
16 Avenue Bugeaud Paris 75116 France +33 1 5628 1616 |
La Table de Joël Robuchon is as famous as its world-acclaimed chef. The place and the cuisine both have a modern creative touch to it. The Silken Gazpachos topped with fresh almonds are a must have. The crab and avocado dish is placed on a China egg and is served on a stone slab along with red ladles. Another must have is La Tarte aux Legumes Crus et Confits and for dessert the Le Pastel Délice. The meal can end with an espresso and a small plate of fresh caramel filled chocolates. Sometimes considered a bit overpriced - and overrated - it is still a memorable dining experience in the capital. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Funky Fusion Fare |
13 avenue du Président Wilson Paris 75061 France +33 1 47 20 00 29 http://www.palaisdetokyo.com/ |
While the 16th arrondissement isn't exactly the most happening district in Paris, it definitely has one of the hippest restaurants. Tokyo Eat is so cool it manages to pull off being avant-garde and '60s retro at the same time' – and has excellent food to boot. Set in a massive warehouse-like space, everything in this restaurant is industrial-sized: from the UFO-shaped lamps hovering above every table, to the generous portions that appear on every plate. Despite the restaurant's name, the food is French with Asian influences. The combinations often sound rather wacky (e.g., steak tartare satay), but they are invariably delicious. -Barbara Diggs Review © 2007, Wcities |

Get a fantastic view of the Eiffel Tower from this restaurant-tearoom opposite the Champ de Mars. Just next to the Musée de l'Homme, this delightful place is very popular for tourists and trendy Parisians. Now under new management, the restaurant's menu has been given a new lease of life and includes succulent dishes such as Saucisse de Morteau aux Lentilles Tièdes (smoked sausage with lentils), pan-fried prime cut of beef with Guérande salt and potato croquettes, and other fish dishes with a deliciously exotic twist. Look out for the vintage Bordeaux! Afternoon teas. Disc jockeys on Friday and Saturday nights. Review © 2007, Wcities |
