Tucked away in the corner of the chic and cher 7th arrondissement, Le Basile is a bastion for those seeking the casual and cheap. Students from the nearby Sciences-Po come to loudly debate politics over espresso. The vibe is retro and mod, with bright red furnishings, a giant portrait of Mick Jagger, and bright, airy windows. While the food is serviceable and inexpensive, the real draw at Le Basile is the atmosphere.

What does a Papa do when he opens a bistro? He reinvents French cuisine and cooks something special out of the random fowl and cattle produce. The tables are neatly decorated with a no-fuss service. And hey the generous helpings are another story altogether.

Petit Thiou

It will take you on a Thai high
3 Rue de Surcouf
Paris 75007
France
+33 1 4062 9670
This eatery's Thai delicacies are so popular that other restaurants have begun to ape its signature dishes! The ambience is relaxed and sober, and the food will keep you coming back for more - the innovative chef has the menu changed every six weeks, so you will never get tired of it! The feather in the cap of Le Petit Thiou is the specialty 'Crying Tiger' ('Le tigre qui pleure') - it is the most sought-after dish here.

Petrossian Restaurant

Celebrate with caviar
18 Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg
Maubourg
Paris 75007
France
+33 1 4411 3232
This restaurant is a new member at Boulevard La Tour Maubourg. A young and lively staff takes your order and is ever ready to offer suggestions. The venue specializes in dishes with caviar. Go ahead and order one; let the juicy flavors burst onto your palate as you enjoy this expensive delicacy. A fine wine from the wine list can add wonders to the experience. The dessert serving-dishes don't reveal their true rich taste and textures. Those porcelain bowls definitely need a replacement.

You can't miss this venue with its chirpy-pink and huge name-board bang opposite the Bridge of Alma. What's with the unusual name? It's the name of the biggest champagne bottle (15 liters)! The menu features traditional French recipes prepared by Thierry Garnier, whose expertise lies in meat preparations. Owner Eric Rousseau also has a good collection of great vintages and some premium cigars from Havana. What an apt venue for a connoisseur of fine food, wines and cigars!

Rhumerie

Creole flavours
166 Boulevard Saint-Germain
Paris 75006
France
+33 1 43 54 28 94
In the past, this bar was a real institution in Saint-Germain - a touch of the exotic in this chic and intellectual district. The tropical islands have receded with the arrival of a less sophisticated clientele. The décor has become colonial kitsch and lost some of its charm. However, the cocktails are still the highlights; do try the famous Coco-Punch. This place is often packed and in the summer, the terrace is literally "taken by storm".

A collage of cream-coloured leather and dark wood, the decor at Sumai's is ultra-modern, but classy. If you wish to sample authentic Oriental food, visit this restaurant, which offers dishes, such as Sliced Salmon and Tartar with Wasabi (EUR12) and Crystallized Lamb Téréyaki (EUR23). The service is quick and the staff hospitable. The bar offers a select list of fine wines and spirits.

Telegraphe

A Yiddish streak!
41 Rue de Lille
Paris 75007
France
+33 1 4292 0304
http://www.letelegraphe.fr/
A royal blend of ornate chandeliers dangling from high ceilings, silver cutlery, spotless linen and classic French delicacies help create a fine dining experience at Le Telegraphe. While the private interior garden makes for a special feature at the restaurant, it is the 'kosher' cuisine blended with traditional French styles that one cannot help but notice. The wine list too has a few Israeli favorites among the others that are brought in from all over France. You can start with the Foie gras Raviolis, move onto the different main course meat dishes and end with a rich and toothsome dessert, such as Tatin de Poire Tiède or Fondue Chocomaniaque et Grignotage.

This large bistro is pleasantly relaxed and the service is serious and attentive - qualities that have contributed to its success. The clientele consists largely of a young crowd, local families, and tourists passing by. The menu offers a number of traditional French dishes (particularly from the South-West). If you want to eat like a king, you should try the Foie Gras and the Cassoulet (bean, duck and sausage casserole). You get good value for the money ... set menus are available from around EUR13.

Chef Constant's passion for creating delectable dishes is quite evident at this welcoming restaurant. Try the Scallops or the chicken from the farms of Bresse. They come with various mouth watering accompaniments. The main course and the desserts compete with each other as far as the taste goes. The interiors are professionally done up and paintings by artist Nicaud line up the cream walls. A Michelin Star award winner, missing out on this venue would be a crime.

Paris 75007

This eatery is set in a pretty location by the river. Ladies are in for a pleasant welcome with a kiss on the hand. The menu is interesting and in case you need help, the staff is more than happy to offer suggestions. If you want to go light on the stomach, then try the Lamb's Lettuce and Beetroot Salad, or the Crab Salad. The Lobster Omelet, one of their specialties, is very filling. Do round off your meal with a tempting dessert, before you take off for a refreshing stroll by the river.
