Well-known British restaurateur Terence Conran has chosen the heart of Paris's chic Odeon district as the spot for his first cross-channel venture. The sophisticated menu places a definite emphasis on French cuisine; Grilled Lamb with Mint, Potatoes and Spinach Shoots and Fish is served in the vast, sumptuously decorated room on the lower level. Upstairs there's an ultra trendy bar and lounge, where an international line-up of DJs work magic on the turntables. A small, exclusive private room is available for hire (minimum 14 people). 8 Rue Boissy d'Anglais Paris 75008 France +33 1 5305 9000 http://www.buddha-bar.com buddha.bar@buddha-bar.fr |
A hit with businessmen and a fashionable crowd, this kitschy, exotic restaurant isn't quite what you'd expect to find just a few minutes away from the Crillon luxury hotel and ultra chic Place de la Concorde. Climb the massive staircase to this huge restaurant's smaller dining areas, watched over by an enormous Buddha. The imaginative Japanese-Californian menu features grilled duck and other meat dishes. Cafe Costes' superb 19th century-style decor and patio that is open in summer, keeps it pretty packed. The restaurant is located at the bottom floor of the hotel building. The food isn't extraordinary for the price but is worth a try. Try the famous Tuna Fish Steak or the Chocolate Cake. Expect to pay EUR60-EUR75 for dinner à la carte. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gosh! "I.M. Pei-ing" a lot for this beer |
93 Rue de Rivoli Paris 75001 France +33 1 49 26 06 60 |
The major selling point of the Café Marly is a stunning view of the Louvre pyramid designed by the architect I.M. Pei as part of President Mitterrand's grand public-works campaign. Amid the noise and confusion of the tourist-oriented cafés surrounding the Louvre and occupying most of the Rue de Rivoli, Café Marly is an island of elegance and, inside at least, of peace. The cuisine is not exceptional, but simple and good, like the Caesar salad or the salmon. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bask in the luxury of this Michelin starred restaurant that offers exquisitely prepared and arranged French cuisine. The resplendent décor, complete with paintings and show pieces is pleasing to the eye. The food - La Poule Faisane, Le Turbot Sauvage and Soufflé Chaud au Chocolat Guanaja - is fit for a king, so expect to shell out serious money. The wines - Bordeaux, Bourgognes, Provences, and Rhones - add to the swank. It's definitely not a bad idea to venture here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Closerie des Lilas is a chic American bar in Paris. Hemingway, the famous writer, wrote "Le soleil se lève aussi" sitting in this bar. The gourmet restaurant here is very expensive due to its location and delicious cuisine. You can sit at the brasserie 'le Bateau' (the boat), which has a more relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Designer dining with the best view in Paris |
19 Rue Beaubourg Paris 75004 France +33 1 44 78 47 99 |
Situated on the top floor of the Pompidou Centre, this Costes brothers landmark is itself a work of art. The modern dining room is composed of four bubble-like spaces decorated in aluminum and rubber. Large bay windows and a terrace make the restaurant airy and bright, giving diners a superb view over the capital. The cuisine is light: Millefeuille de Crabe et Champignons (crab and mushroom in filo pastry), Canard au Caramel et au Coco (duck in a caramel and coconut sauce) but don't forget to leave room for the classic chocolate mousse. Hotel Favart is a tiny three star hotel. The building of the hotel exists since the 18th century and the structure looks like a castle. It's at the periphery of the most important theatres and art galleries. Dining is a very pleasurable experience here. Non-smoking rooms are available at a request. Pets are permitted. Talking Tokyo! |
9 Rue du Mont Thabor Paris 75001 France +33 1 4260 6507 |
This critically acclaimed restaurant is one of the best Japenese joints you can treat yourself to. With a great Sushi bar on the ground floor, all you Sushi fans can work up a good appetite and stream in here. The restaurant above offers some real authentic Japanese fare among a traditional decor of gold, wood and rock. The downside - prices lean towards expensive and the service can get a bit inattentive. So inspite of the great food you'll have to take the pains of being precise about what you want and how you want it. If you're willing to shell out a little more, Kinugawa can be a nice spot to relax, unwind and binge away on treats from the heart of Japan! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Shadows in the City of Lights |
27 Quai Branly (Musée du Quai Branly) Paris 75007 France +33 1 47 53 68 00 http://www.lesombres-restauran... |
Les Ombres (The Shadows) has one of the most spectacular, close up views of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Situated on the fifth floor of the newly opened Musée du Quai Branly, the food and wines here are equally as spectacular as the view. Chef Arno Busquet's classic French ingredients are given an exotic evocation of Asia, Africa, Oceana and America. Not for those who prefer simple food, signature dishes include Cod steak lacquered with ginger caramel, accompanied with Puy green lentils with lemongrass. Les Ombres is the ideal dining location to impress your date or close that important business deal. Try to get a table by the window. - Jean Grogan Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chic and Classic |
3 Avenue Matignon Paris 75008 France +33 1 53 89 18 91 |
This is the place to come to if you want to lounge or shake a leg on the dance floor. It is heavy on your purse but considering the quality of food and drinks served, the prices are justified. It has a very extravagant decor with bright colored sofas and chairs. The menu has loads of fish and beef dishes and the cocktails served are delicious, thus the demand for them is really high! Even people from the film and fashion fraternity can be caught siting around here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A lot of thought has gone into creating this fine dining venue. The attention paid to detail is visible in the food, the drinks, as well as the décor. Designer Patrick Jouin has worked up an interesting combination, which throws light on contemporary design elements and Alain Ducasse's fusion French fare. Food is well flavored and the staff is warm. The wine menu crafted by Gérard Margeon is extensive, yet not complicated. Dessert Chef Nicolas Berger works wonders with the ingredients, his treats are a perfect way to wind up a memorable dining experience. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic & contemporary cuisine |
14 Rue des Grands-Augustins Paris 75006 France +33 1 4326 4939 http://www.jacquescagna.com/us... jacquescagna@hotmail.com |
Situated in a 17th century private hotel, this restaurant is the jewel in the celebrated two-star chef Jacques Cagna's crown. Famed for its excellent dishes and its chic and comfortable atmosphere, this establishment has relatively high prices and is, in fact, generally frequented by a well-to-do crowd. The menu proposes many delicious dishes such as his inimitable Pigeon Confit (squab cooked in its own fat). The use of Indian spices in some of his dishes adds to the menu's subtlety. 7 Rue de Berri Hôtel Lancaster Paris 75008 France +33 1 4076 4018 / +33 1 4076 4076 http://www.hotel-lancaster.fr/... restaurant@hotel-lancaster.fr |
The menu at this restaurant is simple, provided you can make a quick choice between the irresistible dishes listed under six subheads of tomatoes, citrus, condiments and spices, wine and vinegar, vegetables and herbs and dairy produce. The wood and jute interiors give the restaurant a very natural feel, while the mellow lighting creates the required warmth and comfort. Nothing here is overtly stressed and the entire process of dining becomes a smooth experience with an arty feel to it. The clientele that pours in is generally elite and not necessarily French, just like the cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |
