Chez Marianne

Right in the middle of Paris's largest Jewish community is Chez Marrianne, a pastry shop and delicatessen of delectable diversity. This quaint cafe encourages diners to compose sampler plates of four to six items from some 20 different salads and hot snacks, such as brik, a crisp tuna pastry. Turkish salad, chopped liver, and tabbouleh are a few examples of the motley of choices you can enjoy while sipping on the cafe's choice Israeli wine. The Chez Marianne is a popular haunt of the locals, and reservations are a must.

Dark leather, wood paneled walls and a dimly lit interior give off a very intimate ambience. Oysters and clams in varied sauces are the specialty here, though picking from the eclectic array of wine will take some of your time. And while you await your order, peruse the many paintings if you appreciate art and the aesthetics. You may go easy with a black tie and tuxedo - semi formal is just fine.

You'll blend right in at this hip bar-restaurant whose sidewalk terrace is forever brimming with big-sunglasses-wearing beautiful people. But if that's not your scene, not to worry. The interior of the place, with its comfy purple pleather chairs and ruby-colored bar, is much more laid-back, and the staff is friendly. Best of all, the food–-so often an afterthought at trendy places--is surprisingly good. Dig into the grilled chicken-pesto salad, the smoked salmon club sandwich, or the goat cheese penne.
