Originator of the word |
52 Rue Lamarck Paris 75018 France +33 1 4254 5442 |
This four-star restaurant in the heart of Montmartre is named after Antoine Beauvilliers (1754-1817), the kitchen head of the Count of Provence (Louis XVIII). He invented the word "restaurant" and contributed to its being spread to the common people. This dining place is more of a culinary home than a restaurant with its bouquets, its bright colours, and its 18th-century atmosphere. Recommended dishes by founder Edouard Carlier are the fresh Artichoke Heart with Crab, the Fried Squid and Seafood in Tuscany Olive Oil (appetiser), the Veal Kidney in Veal Shell and Veal Fillet and for dessert the Crunchy Black and White Chocolate Cake with nuts. Casual Coffee |
15 Rue Lepic Paris 75018 France +33 14 254 9050 |
Café des Deux Moulins is the same cafe that featured in the much loved 2001 film Amelie. You can tell by the 1950's decor inside. The small typical French cafe has definitely gotten attention after the success of the movie and is visited by both native and foreign customers. A large poster of Amelie saying 'Amelie thanks you' hangs on one of the walls. Other than this the cafe is like any other French cafe with a low lit and warm atmosphere inside, where just coffee and casual conversations take place. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If authentic Italian cuisine is what you're looking for, then head to Gattopardo. A mouthful of Spaghetti al Nero di Seppia will send you to Palermo - well, almost. You will have to visit more often to partake of the heavenly pastas as the menu is changed every ten days. The food is so savory, you are forgiven for forgetting your manners. If you're looking for good and traditional seafood in Paris, you've found your destination. Charlot's Swordfish Steak and Seafood Bisque are highly recommended. The décor is a bit flashy with pink pastels, sea motifs, and lots of chrome and mirrors that make the restaurant seem larger than it actually is. The atmosphere is lively and cheerful. All in all, it's a good destination to visit if you're looking for a pleasant time. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Ireland in Pigalle |
110 Boulevard de Clichy Paris 75018 France +33 1 42 23 00 30 |
The latest venture from the people who brought you the pub of the same name in the Rue St-André-des-Arts, Corcoran's on the Boulevard de Clichy (Pigalle district) has succeeded in creating a fairly authentic atmosphere thanks to a an old-fashioned bar, plenty of old Irish ads on the walls, and above all a legitimate personnel and clientele of expatriates. Irish, French, Americans and Brits mingle here at happy hour or during big rugby and soccer matches on the big screen; the place also attracts quite a few tourists from nearby Pigalle and Montmartre. Enter the room decorated in the 19th century style, and when you do, you will taste traditional cuisine par excellence. There is a pianist, who will enlighten and enliven every evening with music. An atmosphere of musicals, river side cafés and cabarets will make your stop at this restaurant unforgettable and relaxing. This bistro is a popular hangout among the locals here. The French cuisine has been modified to suit modern tastes. The place also has great music which you can groove to while feasting on the contemporary food. Some of the combinations that you'll be heading into are avocado milk shake, raw shrimp with passion fruit and beef carpaccio served with Basque-style omelets. So go ahead and experiment! 74 Rue des Martyrs Paris 75018 France +33 1 4264 7035 |
Very close to the famous concert hall, La Cigale, this bar-restaurant calls itself La Fourmi, a tribute to the famous poetry of La Fontaine. It is a pleasant place to spend the winter: convivial atmosphere, warm colours, and good traditional cuisine. After wandering around Montmartre and the Moulin-Rouge, there is nothing better than a warm Goat's Cheese Salad or a Croque Monsieur Campagnard (traditional ham and cheese toasted sandwich). A Goat Cheese Salad costs EUR8, a Croque Monsieur around EUR5 and a beer EUR2-EUR3. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Poems and history |
22 Rue des Saules Paris 75018 France +33 (0)1 4606 8587 http://www.au-lapin-agile.com/... |
In 1860, the Cabaret des Assassins opened in this building; in the late 19th century, the Lapin Agile (Agile Rabbit, but also a play on the word Gill, the name of the artist responsible for the sign over the door) frequently hosted artists like Jacob, Picasso, and Apollinaire. Legendary singer Aristide Bruant bought it in 1902. Nowadays, poetry is the speciality of the house. The walls are covered with souvenirs and paintings, poems and testimonies. Every night, wonderful singers and poets perform a four-hour show; the atmosphere is downright touching. Review © 2007, Wcities |
