Bel Canto is a very romantic restaurant with an opera theme. The staff sings lovely songs by Verdi, Rossini and Mozart and guests can dance the night away to these tunes. This place is very popular for its Italian and traditional French cuisine. There is also a separate smoking area. The great food and ambience keep this place pretty packed, so it is advisable to make reservations.

Café Vavin

A Movable Feast
18 Rue Vavin
Paris 75006
France
+33 1 43 26 67 47
Café Vavin is a bustling, friendly café-bar just a minute's walk from the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. This lively spot is a favorite with the artists, writers, students and families with young children of the quarter. Simple but generously portioned food is served all day (salads, daily specials of meat & fish dishes, cheeses & desserts). Sample the special duck breast in green pepper sauce, veal kidneys braised in cream with homemade mashed potatoes, or the always delicious smoked tuna steak. Café Vavin is the perfect stopping point as you make your way to or from the Luxembourg Gardens to have a drink, a light lunch, a glass of rouge at the bar with the day's newspaper (provided) or a café-crème on the terrace, simply relaxing as you watch the world go by. - Jean Grogan

Café de l'Atelier

A younger Montparnasse
95 Boulevard du Montparnasse
Paris 75006
France
+33 1 45 44 98 81
Open 24 hours a day, L'Atelier ("The Workshop") attracts a much younger crowd than the legendary 1930s cafés in the neighborhood. With all the movie theaters, universities and schools nearby, the place is never empty. The atmosphere is rather warm and trendy, and the heated-as-necessary terrace is a great spot for people watching while having a drink with friends. Snacks are also available. The Happy Hour from 7p to 9p every evening. Expect to pay around EUR7 for a cocktail and EUR3.50 for a beer.

Café des Signes

Signs of progress
Paris 75014
France
+33 (0)1 4539 3740
http://www.europeonwheels.net/...
As you browse through the hundreds of Café that lace this avenue, you may not notice that the Café Signes is quite different. Welcome to Paris' first café where the hearing impaired and the hearing are on equal footing - here, you find the customers and staff using their hands to communicate. All 45 of the staff are hearing impaired, and if you don't know how to use the sign language, the menu has some cute tips - make a steeple shape and you will get French fries. You can also point or write down your order. The steak fries are worth a try here.

Cagouille(La)

The genuine taste
10-12 Place Constantine Brancusi
Paris
France
+33 1 4322 0901
This restaurant is an ode to all seafood lovers, and a tribute to the cooking style of La Charente, the flat sandy district on the south of Bordeaux. Using no sauce or spice, the seafood is fresh and retains its original taste. The mastermind behind this restaurant is the owner and Chef Allamandou. If you're confused to make a choice from the menu, request for his favorite dish - the Red Mullet, which is baked in rock salt or sautéed in oil. Only white wine is served here.

Chez Clément Montparnasse

Colors of Joy
106 Boulevard du Montparnasse
Paris 75014
France
+33 1 4410 5400
http://www.chezclement.com/fra...
This eatery makes for a nice hide away from all the hustle and bustle on Montparnasse boulevard. While hues of blue and yellow add cheer to the ambience, fresh flowers and artifacts do a good job of decorating the restaurant. The cuisine is essentially French with fresh seafood delights and the menu changes seasonally. Platters of oysters and shellfish constitute the favorites among patrons. Don't forget to try the sumptuous puddings, which come with as many hot chocolate profiteroles as you like.

Perfect place for a rendez-vous
171 Boulevard du Montparnasse

Closerie des Lilas is a chic American bar in Paris. Hemingway, the famous writer, wrote "Le soleil se lève aussi" sitting in this bar. The gourmet restaurant here is very expensive due to its location and delicious cuisine. You can sit at the brasserie 'le Bateau' (the boat), which has a more relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices.

Contre-Allée

Trendy and delicious
83 Avenue Denfert-Rochereau
Paris 75014
France
+33 1 43 54 99 86
Despite its location on a quiet avenue at Denfert-Rochereau, this restaurant has become quite fashionable over the last few years. If that sometimes means overrated food and obnoxious service, such is definitely not the case here. Among their dishes are a delicious roast lamb (cooked for 7 hours) that practically melts in your mouth, and a porcini-mushroom flan with bacon cream. Celebrities can sometimes be spotted here, but the food is a much better reason to go!

Montparnasse the Next Generation

Paris 75006
France

Hemingway and Henry Miller are long gone, but you can still find tomorrow's artistic revolutionaries on the Boulevard Montparnasse if you know where to look. Start at the Cosmos Café, an eccentric bar where one can have a drink but also watch movie classics on a big screen (on Wednesday evenings). There is a good choice of drinks and snacks - a tad bit expensive. Traditional French cuisine: snails, beef undercut, etc.

With a list of former regulars that includes Man Ray, Aragon, Picasso and Hemingway, this brasserie has become a Parisian institution. With seating for 450, the dining room is France's biggest. Its decor may have lost some of its sparkle, but the original art deco style, cubist tiling and fresco-covered pillars remain unchanged. Traditional brasserie fare is the order of the day: seafood, Steak Tartare, Cassoulet (meat and bean casserole) and a Meat Curry too.

Crêperie de Josselin

Double crêpes for everyone!
67 Rue de Montparnasse
Paris 75014
France
+33 1 4320 9350
The decor in this Montparnasse crêperie seeks like many others to recreate a typical Breton atmosphere; the difference is that here they have definitely achieved that rustic rural feel. So is it to stay true to that feel that they do not accept credit cards! Josselin serves delicious buckwheat crepes with a variety of fillings ranging from regular ham and cheese to smoked salmon. The main difference is that in this particular crepe-house, they serve double crepes. The place is packed every night: probably the most popular crêperie in the neighborhood.

Mojitos, cigars and salsa

Paris 75006
France
+33 1 4046 8081
http://www.cubanacafe.com/
Another bar-restaurant celebrating all that Havana represents in stylish, sophisticated surroundings. Nothing is missing in this reconstruction of revolutionary Cuba, with photos of the time, posters and slogans setting the scene... but of course the Cuban rum and the dominoes always have the upper hand here over politics. The caballeros and their partners come in search of the sizzling atmosphere of salsa, accompanied by tapas washed down with a Mojito (rum cocktail). The cigar cellar, containing some of the big classics, is a must-see. Che Guevara lives on!
