André-Citroën Park

A large and modern park
Quai André Citroën
Paris 75015
France
+33 1 4742 9056 (Ministry of Tourism)
Like many other green Parisian parks, the Andre-Citroën park is quite formal in its design: terraces, lawns and symmetrically arranged flower beds. It is dedicated to the famous car inventor, Citroën, whose first factory was situated near the banks of Javel nearby. Divided into 'black', 'white', 'red', and 'blue' gardens, it has a modern, futuristic aspect, emphasised by the large concrete patio, which dominates the 'white' garden. Mostly visited by Parisians living in the area, it is fairly sheltered from the crowds of tourists who flock to the more famous parks. The visit is worthwhile though to see its cascades, luxurious plants, towers, lilies and its tranquillity. Admission is free.

Arc de Triomphe

The magic roundabout
Place Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile
Paris 75008
France
+33 1 5537 7377
The arch is a site of memories, current events and celebrations. The lists of the dead will move you. And the cars that drive around the monument will terrify you! Standing in a direct line between the Louvre and the Grande Arche de la Défense, the monument links the past with the present and offers amazing views. A truly impressive landmark, 50 metres high and 45 metres wide, Paris would not be Paris without it! Admission is EUR7.

Bois de Boulogne

More than 100,000 trees!
Bois de Boulogne
Paris 75016
France
+33 1 4742 9056 (Ministry of Tourism)
The Bois de Boulogne stretches over 863 hectares and is known as much for its unsalubrious associations as its variety of trees and vegetation. It was named after the sanctuary Notre-Dame de Boulogne le Petit under the reign of Philippe IV, known as Philippe le Bel. It was then partly converted to a royal hunting ground before being redesigned to include wide alleyways inviting elegant Parisians to take a stroll. Today, there are sports grounds, a swimming pool, cafés and restaurants to attract Parisians in search of nature.

Castel Beranger

Art Nouveau at its Prime
14 Rue La Fontaine
Paris 75016
France
http://www.lecerlceguimard.com...
French Architect Hector Guimard encapsulates the short lived Art Nouveau style in his distinctive building, Castel Beranger. Completed in 1898, the structure's daring asymmetrical design still stands out today. What Gaudi brought to Barcelona, Guimard brought to Paris in this must see landmark. If you can't get inside the building for a special viewing of the interior, the engaging exterior is worth a visit.

Counterfeit Museum

Original or copy?
16 Rue de la Faisanderie
Paris 75116
France
+33 1 56 26 14 00
Rare is the discerning consumer who has never been confronted to counterfeit. A convincing explanation for this fact is the abundance of fake goods available on the market. The Musée de la Contrefaçon gives visitors the opportunity to train their eye and practise their judgment by comparing originals and copies displayed here side by side. More than 350 items are exhibited : toys, pens, clothes, tools, toiletries, luxury goods, etc. The exhibits demonstrate the extent industries are affected by counterfeit. Founded in 1951, a manufacturers' association fighting this phenomenon, reminds us of a war which started with the creation of the first designer labels. In this museum, you will recognize products you use and might even realise that you have bought fakes in the past. However, after this visit, there will be no excuse! Admission: EUR2, under- 12s free

Classified as Monument Historique and Bâtiment de France, the Notre-Dame of Boulogne-Billancourt was constructed between 1319 and 1450. It is a place of pilgrimage close to the capital, and was originally a project of Philippe V. Inside, the restored 19th century decor is a rare example of its style. Much of the iconography and symbolism represents the ocean - waves, fish, dolphins, and rivers - in honor of the Virgin Mary as the protector of sailors and navigators.

Paris just wouldn't be Paris without the Eiffel Tower. Designed by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World Fair, at 300m it was then the world's tallest building. Not everyone was happy when it was first built; many considered it an eyesore and wanted it pulled down, but today it is one of the world's most visited monuments. The first and second floors can be reached using the stairs, and lifts take visitors to the magnificent view at the top. Admission (elevator to the top): Adults EUR11,50; Children EUR6.

Located in the Jardin d'Acclimatation, this structure is a wonderful way for children (from 3 years old) to learn about subjects, such as science, art or multimedia. Via the Internet and an interactive concept, they find out how certain natural and technological systems work. How squared wheels can roll? How tornadoes form? These are just some of the questions investigated here in the Exploradome. Some very interesting temporary exhibitions are also organised. A clever way of learning whilst having fun, for young and old alike!

Les Champs-Elysées

arcades and fashion shops
Paris
France
Welcome to the Champs-Elysées where you can see almost everything...and be seen by almost everyone. The shopping arcades (Galerie des Champs, Arcades du Lido, galeries Elysees - La Boetie and galerie Point-Show) are reminiscent of Alice's Wonderland, albeit a rather expensive one. For those with a smaller budget, there is also NafNaf, Zara and Gap (the largest in Europe no less). Large cinemas, airline offices, expensive slightly old-fashioned shopping arcades and high street fashion characterise an avenue that has lost some of its grandeur to commercial enterprise. For musicians, the nearby Rome Street has plenty of instruments and sheet music. Not the best shopping street in Paris, but a must all the same.

Suggestions: Séphora, the most beautiful perfume shop in Paris; Androuet, a paradise for cheese connoisseurs; the Disney Store, for all ages.

Two steps away from the Bois de Boulogne, this museum reflects the difficulties faced by French farmers that we sometimes overlook, through tools and objects representative of country life. Founded in 1969, it was originally located at the Palais de Chaillot and was one of the first museums in France to use interactive exhibits. There is a less serious section dedicated to fairgrounds, parades, circuses and puppet shows.

The permanent collection includes a selection of over 300,000 objects coming from various part of the world. The museum is divided into four sections, each related to a different area: America, Africa, Asia and Australasia. Admire the sculptures and masks from African or South-American civilizations. Among the 8000 music instruments, take a look at the flutes from New Guinea or tom-toms from Mali and Senegal. Extraordinary textile pieces like Chinese palanquin, shaman coats from Central-America or Asian tapestry will enchant you. If you have some time left, hang out in the garden before concluding your visit. Entrance is about EUR 8,50. - Aurélie Pichard

This museum, devoted to the history of the French navy, was founded in 1827 on the initiative of one of Charles X's sons. Located in the west wing of the Palais de Chaillot (Le) since 1943, it displays models of ships, paintings, weapons, navigational instruments, sculptures and mementoes from shipwrecks. The collection is both impressive and fascinating. Don't miss the model of a nuclear submarine, Napoleons boat or the beautifully made miniature aircraft carriers. Naval art enthusiasts will delight in the Ports Français series painted by Joseph Vernet.

This magnificent garden in the Bois de Boulogne was constructed in 1777 in only 64 days, due to a bet conducted between Marie Antoinette and the Count of Artois. Its composition was inspired by Chinese landscapes and imagery, and it features pagodas, fountains, grottoes and vast expanses of flowers and greenery. In 1865 an orangerie was constructed which still houses oranges in addition to classical concerts and expositions. The orangerie has a capacity for 200 seated and 300 for cocktails.

Trocadero Gardens

Watch out for the rollerbladers!
Avenue de New-York
Paris 75016
France
+33 1 4742 9056 (Ministry of Tourism)
Spread over a total of ten hectares, the Trocadero gardens stretch from the Palais de Chaillot to the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. A pond surrounded by an array of stone and gilded bronze statues and fountains forms a delightful centerpiece. Rollerblade enthusiasts meet here to practice in the midst of this harmony, weaving their way past surprised onlookers and lovers clasped in a warm embrace. Although this is a pleasant place, the rollerbladers' presence tends to spoil the gardens' tranquility, making them a lot less peaceful than the Tuileries gardens, for example. However the view you get from here of the Eiffel Tower (especially at night, when it's lit up) and over the Palais de Chaillot more than makes up for this, giving these gardens their own special charm.
