A laboratory for French comedy |
58 Boulevard Edgar Quinet Paris 75014 +33 1 42 79 97 97 http://www.edgar.fr |
This venue has a long tradition of entertainment behind it. Once an 18th Century guinguette, a sort of alternative wine bar of the time, it became more a cabaret during the 19th century. All kinds of artists could come and exercise their talents in front of an audience wanting fun and booze. Many years later, in 1973, the Café d'Edgar invented the concept of the Caféhre, a small theatre where budding actors and comedians could get their first break. Many French stars started that way. The plays performed here are usually comedies, but the venue also features standup shows. Review © 2009, Wcities |
