Forrest Dr and Fraser Ave
(Kings Park)
Perth, WA 6000
Australia
+1 300 36 1351
Perth throws a major celebration on Australia Day and practically the whole city shows up for the fun. The excitement starts early with activities on the Perth foreshore. Water displays take place on the Swan River and a mid-afternoon air show draws huge crowds. An excellent line-up of local acts perform at the Esplanade park in the city, starting with the Survival concert in recognition of Indigenous Australia. However, the true event happens when the sun goes down...fireworks. Central Perth overflows with people as they vie for the best spots to watch. While the city offers an exhilarating atmosphere, there are also a number of excellent vantage points along the river. Admission is free.

Today, the four King's Meadows are used to graze animals and for public recreation, including polo. The Polo Club stages matches here in summer. The shelters and jetties make this a great spot for picnics and fishing. It is also a good area for canoeing. There is a children's playground and dogs are allowed if they are on a leash.

This is a great swimming, surfing and body surfing beach with rolling sand dunes and a stretch of cliffs that create a wind-swept sense of isolation. There are beach entry points, car parks, and observation spots with shaded picnic tables dotted along the coastal road.

This attraction, Western Australia's oldest public building, was completed in 1831. The Round House was used as a jail and a signal house. The limestone structure is very simple but the location stunning. Sitting on a high spot at the edge of the Indian Ocean, the site provides a fantastic view. You can look back down the Swan River to the city of Perth or out towards Rottnest Island. The gunnery tradition continues each day at 1pm when a visitor, selected from the crowd, fires the cannon.
