Housed in a converted 18th-century barn, this small, quiet hotel has been transformed into 28 rooms complete with queen-sized fourpost beds and cherrywood colonial furnishings. This stretch of Germantown Avenue is lined with restaurants, fashion and antique shops. George Washington used to vacation in this neighborhood. (It's rather far from downtown if you're traveling by horseback.) Many late 18th- and early 19th-century buildings still mark the streets here; it's a very pretty part of town. The intimate accommodations are conducive to a quiet getaway weekend just half an hour from downtown Philadelphia.
