The tin roof looms over a fusion of Irish and American flags and knick-knacks. Simple but sturdy bar stools and chairs keep patrons who have had one too many Guinnesses from hitting the floor. The crowd, generally on the low side of 30, is just looking for a good time. Of course the big boys of Irish beers are on tap: Harp, Guinness and Bass. Hearty Irish and American grub is on the menu. Corned beef and cabbage and Shepard's Pie are joined by cheeseburgers and New York Strips. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Since 1939 this dining mainstay has been consistently rated as one of the area's best for having mastered the culinary art of creating authentic Philly cheesesteaks. Cheez Whiz, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and peppers are just a few of the extras that are always on call to top the thinly sliced rib eyes. Just off South Street is this small trendy gem which offers just what its name says. Order one of the many fabulous entrees from Chef Chris Scott's menu. Grilled Seitan over Korean black rice, fire grilled Tuna Steak, Wild Mushroom Dumplings and garlic mashed potatoes are some of the many delicious offerings available. Small and dimly lit room offers an excellent spot for a date. The tables are plated in copper and though they are sometimes too close together, house music drowns out any outside conversation. Small space, big meal |
600 Catherine St Philadelphia, PA 19147 United States +1 215 413 3464 |
The owner of Little Fish restaurant likes the hands-on approach: He doubles as the chef. And as a chef, the menu is based solely on his discriminating palate. As you may have guessed by the name, the restaurant specializes in fish : Grilled, seared, pan-fried, sautéed, but never heavy or deep-fried, always very healthy and fresh, based on seasonal availability. The offered accompaniments are very complementary to any dish you might choose. The place is busy and small; in other words, intimate. Rest assured you will soon forget any inconvenience as soon as you sample any of the dishes. Everything is prepared with great attention, even the desserts, also homemade and fresh. And if there is something you're not satisfied with, you can tell the chef directly. He's probably only a few feet away. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh food, cleanliness, friendly service, and good pricing are the reasons why there's always a crowd at this award-winning corner diner. Food is prepared in full view of customers and is extremely fresh. Their signature bacon and eggs platter is served with potatoes, and a big, crusty biscuit that resembles crumb cake. Penn's Landing is a great destination for activities and entertainment in Philadelphia. Formed in 1979, the idea of Penn's Landing was to give the city a place to experience festivals, events and recreation. It is a veritable wonderland with an ice rink, bustling waterfront, a nightclub, a museum and much more. If you're with kids, this is the ideal place to hang out. Check out the Duck ride, a one of a kind land and water ride. Or if you're just looking to have a good time, make your way down to Cavanaugh's River Deck. It offers a delicious Irish grill as well as live music and dancing. Otherwise, pop into Egypt, the landing's very own disco, which has three dance floors. There is very little you can't do at Penn's landing. Also, when you're there, remember to visit Christopher Columbus - all 106 feet of him. Over 1.5 million people visit Penn's landing, so go ahead and join the bandwagon! Review © 2007, Wcities |
