Sights of Little Italy |
3437 West Dunlap Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85051 +1 602 249 9030 |
Combining a deli, a grocery store, and a sandwich bar, this Italian import place would satisfy any native New Yorker. From the fantastic smells to Mr. Romanelli's accent, you will feel like you have just stepped off the subway into Little Italy. The wide-open store is stocked with pastas, olive oil, candies, and more, all imported from Italy. In the back stands the huge deli, with packaged halves of proscuitto and huge hunks of cheese dangling from the ceiling. Check out the boar shanks that mimic the look of Italy's markets (except the dangling meat is real in Italy). Besides the delicious meats and cheeses that you can buy by the pound, the place serves up a host of delicious sandwiches and fresh-made pastas. Try the Italian Stallion, with horn salami, pepperoni capicolla and provolone. George's Special is comprised of a full half-pound of meat with hot peppers. Actually, the staff will make you any type of sandwich you want, and they even cook up a mean pizza. The cannolis are homemade, and homemade bread is offered as well. Try some gelato, the rich, creamy Italian version of ice cream, for dessert. Review © 2009, Wcities |
