This upscale addition to Portland's trendy Northwest area brings North African and French twists to contemporary cuisine. The dimly-lit, atmospheric interior compels you to take your time with your meal, which is easy to do when you've got live music in the background (beginning every night at 9p). For a succulent vegetarian appetizer, try the "Kabocha Squash Gnocchi with Chanterelles, Brown Butter, Sage, and Parmesan." For a main course that packs a hearty punch, go with the "Mixed Grill" (subtly-spiced quail, rabbit and bacon served with potatoes and sauerkraut). And you better believe you can find the right wine to pair with that quail - 23Hoyt's impressive wine list has a little something for everyone (average price $45-$50/bottle). You might even consider ordering a nice port or a mellow white to go with your dessert - we recommend the "50/50," which consists of persimmon sherbet and medjool date ice cream served with anise shortbread.
