Spring is a great time to visit this fascinating piece of historic Portland. This is the season when the cherry trees bloom—you might think you are in Asia. Sixty-four fierce dragons and two ferocious lions guard the gate to Chinatown. Kaohsiung, China (one of Portland's sister cities) dedicated the ornate gate to Portland in 1986. In addition to Chinese restaurants, markets and specialty stores, you will find some of the city's most historic architecture, with buildings dating back to the late 1800s. This is a cultural mainstay of the Rose City. Review © 2009, Wcities |
